[sailwave] sail no wizard

I used to be involved a lot with powerboat racing back in the 80's.
We usedto put a video camera in the control tower on a tripod showing
the start finish line. This recorded the entire race in case any
discrepencies came in. Race officials in the control tower would call
out numbers of boats as they crossed the line and entering the data
onto paper. Comments by officials were also recorded and helped a lot
if a protest needed to be reviewed.

I understand that it might be a little awkward on a committee boat to
keep the camera lined up with the start line, however it could still
add value. Our club runs most of its events frim the control tower
anyway.

With a powerfull pc these day's , it is possible, to coonect a webcam
up and record everything with sound + add date & time to images. This
might be a usefull addition to incorporate into sailwave in the
future.

In addition, we use a small tape recorder. We have found that handy

when

multiple OOF sheets disagree. Even if two of the three agree, it

does not

mean they are right. Tapes are cheap and stored with the OOF sheets

in the

race records.

We take three rotations on the race committee boat. If you only

take two

and they disagree you are not sure which rotation is right and

which is

wrong. We will never go entirely electronic and will always stick

with a

paper rotation. So the wizard works fine for us.

[sailwave] sail no wizard Hi Colin, I have to agree with the
masses. I also enter the data from a paper sheet (in fact,
we have 2 people writing the numbers down, in case of error),
and it all goes directly into the wizard. One thing I've
noticed that _would_ be useful to have changed, is the behaviour
of matching on exact sail #'s. For Example: I have boats with
#'s 140, 14512, and 14. When I enter 14, it brings up all
boats, and I have to "resolve ambiguity". It would be preferable
to me to just be able to hit enter, and have it take the exact
match. Further to this line of thinking, I _always_ enter the
full sail #, because it's more accurate. The "automatic
matching" feature is actually a detriment to me, in this case.
Not to mention the fact that it now makes noise. My $0.02.
(But it's Canadian money, so it's closer to 0.01) Cheers,
