Hi Finn,
I would like to be able to help you, but my Danish is
non-existent. If you could post in English I may be able to help
you.
There are other scoring software applications and I have used
several over the years, but I have stuck with Sailwave.

hello I thought I had sent this mail to it-support@kerteminde-sejlklub.dk

but equally I’m looking for a scoring system that after a season make a new handicap number for each boat.
I have made a #program in Excel #. It works, but you should guess the new handicap so it takes some time. the prerequisite is that they both have a better handicap number must have at least participated in more than 12 out of 16 sailings. we sail with reverse respite ie all of them have different start times and they should reach goals simultaneously. When after a season it is expected that a boat will sail 9 seconds faster than last year, the adjustment will only be 9/3 = 3, because the handicap will not get the numbers to jump back and forth. This system takes into account the crew abilities and the nature of the boat as well as the wind Low in the evening (we sail from 6:30 pm to finish between 2 to 8 miles

Hi Finn,
Thank you for your update.
Sailwave has built-in functionality to use an external Microsoft
Excel spreadsheet to do rating/handicap adjustments. This
functionality was included to support the RYA NHC rating system
which is a progressive handicap system. Sailwave includes the
Excel spreadsheet template to do the calculations in what is
called external mode. It is possible to use a different
spreadsheet which has a different algorithm for calculating a
rating and I am aware of a few Sailwave users who have done this.
As you have already created an Excel spreadsheet to do the rating
calculations using your algorithm then it should be possible to
use it with Sailwave once the appropriate changes are made to your
Excel spreadsheet, so Sailwave and your Excel spreadsheet can
exchange data automatically.
I hope you find this information useful and Google translate to
Danish makes it understandable.
Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Finn,
Understand about spelling; we learn to speak quite a bit before
we learn to spell. However, I am sure that your command of spoken
& written English is far better than mine of Danish.
There is no Excel button the toolbar or in the menu options. To
use an external spreadsheet you have created you need to open
scoring options and select the Rating tab. Near the bottom of the
window is a check box alongside the word Excel, click the check
box and an entry box opens in which you can add your external
Excel template file name.
You need to understand the format of Excel file and data
exchange. You need to look at the NHC Excel template file to
understand how you need to set-up your Excel template so the data
is exchanged correctly between Sailwave & Excel.
I have never needed to use this functionality, just know it
exists. Jon the person who implemented the Sailwave Excel link
functionality will be able to help you more than I can. Jon has
been in Spain scoring the Techno Worlds and is travelling back
today/tomorrow. He might be busy Monday & Tuesday catching up

Hi Finn,
Don’t tick the Excel link box for now.
Using the NHC sample supplied if you score the series you should see SWHelper very briefly be displayed. And the ratings will be calculated - changing for each race.
You can see the ratings for each race by pressing F6 then R.
Now you have NHC working select the External/Debug mode and score the series again. This time it will do it using Excel and you can step through each race one at a time and you will get an idea of how it works.
You can then develop your own template to do the calculations you want - but I would start by modifying the one that Sailwave uses
Regards
Jon

Hi Finn,
I’ve had a look at your file. The main problem seemed to be the default rating you were using had a comma in place of a full stop
0.961538462 was written as 0,961538462
If you change these ratings to use a full stop it does basically work
Did you get it working OK with the example supplied with Sailwave?
Let me know how you get on

You best approach is to use the NHC example included with Sailwave then switch it to external mode and it will use excel to do the calculation. Once you have this working you can modify the template to do the calculations that you require.

Hi Finn,
Understand about spelling; we learn to speak quite a bit before we learn to spell. However, I am sure that your command of spoken & written English is far better than mine of Danish.
There is no Excel button the toolbar or in the menu options. To use an external spreadsheet you have created you need to open scoring options and select the Rating tab. Near the bottom of the window is a check box alongside the word Excel, click the check box and an entry box opens in which you can add your external Excel template file name.
You need to understand the format of Excel file and data exchange. You need to look at the NHC Excel template file to understand how you need to set-up your Excel template so the data is exchanged correctly between Sailwave & Excel.
I have never needed to use this functionality, just know it exists. Jon the person who implemented the Sailwave Excel link functionality will be able to help you more than I can. Jon has been in Spain scoring the Techno Worlds and is travelling back today/tomorrow. He might be busy Monday & Tuesday catching up with real work matters, so could be day or so before he sees this message thread.
Kind regards,

Hi Finn,
Thank you for your update.
Sailwave has built-in functionality to use an external Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to do rating/handicap adjustments. This functionality was included to support the RYA NHC rating system which is a progressive handicap system. Sailwave includes the Excel spreadsheet template to do the calculations in what is called external mode. It is possible to use a different spreadsheet which has a different algorithm for calculating a rating and I am aware of a few Sailwave users who have done this.
As you have already created an Excel spreadsheet to do the rating calculations using your algorithm then it should be possible to use it with Sailwave once the appropriate changes are made to your Excel spreadsheet, so Sailwave and your Excel spreadsheet can exchange data automatically.
I hope you find this information useful and Google translate to Danish makes it understandable.
Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Finn - The problem is you have set the rating for all the boats for Race 1 to an invalid value
With Sailwave you can display the ratings by either using the Drop down and selecting ratings. Or a quick way is to press “F6” then “R”
I’ve removed the invalid ratings for Race 1 and there are then no errors
See attached blw file

I’ve had a look at your file. The main problem seemed to be the default rating you were using had a comma in place of a full stop
0.961538462 was written as 0,961538462
