Re: [sailwave] Series Tie Resolution

Nick,

We ran an RS event at Draycote in March. We flagged this exact issue up to the RS Association at the time but guess nothing has come of it. Perhaps one of their committee members has had a tie go against them in the past…

We did as Colin said I think, and luckily there were no ties that needed resolving further.

As Colin said, it’s infuriating as there is seemingly no good reason for this clause in their SI’s. Could you contact the RS association as well and point it out to them. Perhaps if all the clubs who run their events say something they might actually start
listening.

actually ignore that.

click 8.1 and 8.8 only and hope that 8.2 is not needed… (i.e. do it by hand it needed).

its very hard to cope with non standard stuff - and i get very confused by organisations do it for somehgting as arbitrary as series tie breaks knowing that is it gong to cause hassle…

You can’t, but you can get kinda close.

Click on the User Interface button in the toolbar and tick “Non-standard series tie options”.

In the scoring system tick 8.1, include discards for 8.1 (under it) and 8.2.

We are hosting the RS 200 Nationals next week and the class rules state the following for Series Tie Resolution.

Series/event tie If, after discard(s), two or more boats have the same points total the tie will be broken in accordance with RRS Appendix A8.1. If there is still a tie this will
be broken in favour of the boat with the best excluded result. This changes RRS A8. If a tie still exists then the tie will be broken in accordance with RRS Appendix A8.2. For the purpose of this rule the last race will be taken to mean the last race actually
completed on the water.

How can I setup Sailwave to cope with this? Thank you.

86.1(c) says that CLASS RULES may only change certain rules. The way this works (or is supposed to anyway) is that the class rules require the SIs to include tie-breaking language for the event to qualify as a championship. So the change is actually done by the SIs - but the class rules say no change, no championship!

With that said, 90.3(a) seems to imply that you can opt out of all or part of App. A for your scoring system regardless of 86.1(c). So, it may be OK for class rules to specify tie-breaking rules as 90.3(a) contemplates that even without a change to App A. Personally, when there are special class rules that are supposed to apply to an event I repeat in the SIs that those class rules will apply so that every competitor is clear as to what will apply (no need to point out stuff that applies to every event, just those that are special for this event). Even if it is not technically required I think it is good policy.
