Notes:-

Ralph,Martin,Mike: help file (f1 or Help+Contetns menu) contains a
(currently) brief conceptual sequence of events to score App LE Add C. PS:
I'm not continuing with 'the experiment' - events (sic) have overtaken us...
I'll update and add meat to this guide as necessary. Various minor tweaks
to make life a little easier, like being able to seed the Fleet column with
the same info as the finals race seeding.

Hi Colin

Just had a quick look at 1.86 & perhaps your description of "seed competitor field or race flight"
might be worth changing
My initial reaction(confusion) was where has the Assign Race Flights gone & why would you want to
seed a race flight?
I quickly realised what you had done but this could be confusing to 1st time users.

It is interesting that when you asked Scott for his views on what confuses, terminology was a major
part of his problem.
I suspect that he is not on his own. From comments from other users who are happy to read SUG but
not contribute, there is perhaps a significant number of people who have experienced similar
problems.
Sadly, I have even come across someone who binned SW as too complicated to understand

Your conceptual description of setting up App LE AddC is certainly a move in the right direction &
perhaps a 'conceptual' level which does not need editing after every release, supported by a 'Step
by Step' level (maintained with help from SUG regulars?) may be the way to go

What do others think??

Regards
Ralph

Yes, I spend a lot of time trying to give sensible names and often fail.
The motivation for this change (merge the seed too and assign flights tool)
was because some SUG users had commented that it was confusing having two
tools that did the samee thing...! Also assigning flights is seeding them,
in way way, ... But yes, I'll try and rename it; that what these SUG
versions are all about, getting something 'out there' for feedback until
hopefully one day it'll be fit for public consumption.

It is interesting that when you asked Scott for his views on what
confuses, terminology was a major
part of his problem.

Sailwave is in fact very simple now (there are very few menu items) - it's
just that because everything is general - (score by group/field, not score
by *fleet* for example) - it has all these general wishy washy words that
don't make specific sense. The trick is getting a clear mental model of the
generalisations so that you can impose your specifity.

Hi Ralph,

Sadly, I have even come across someone who binned SW as too
complicated to understand

I know lots!!

It happens all the time. I don't think it's avoidable. I wrote Sailwave
because I thought that Sail100 and other software I tried was complicated
(or clunky), whereas other folk find sail100 etc easy. I guess we all feel
comfortable with different approaches but we don't really know why, a bit
like liking or not liking marmite.

Simon posted a link to a newish scoring program recently - and i could not
make head nor tail of it - completely and utterly alien to me! - and yet to
the author and their users I'm sure it fits like a glove. I think
expectation has a lot to do with it too, folk dump software because their
preconceptions and expectations don't match - so they keep trying until they
find something that matches, rathee than change themselves...

Having said that I an committed to making Sailwave easy and flexible (a
contradiction in terms?) and all suggestions are welcome...
