Sailwave Version 2.9.3 Beta Release with NHC calculations

I have just posted in the Beta Downloads area of the Sailwave website a new beta release, version 2.9.3 as well as a couple of minor updates the major update is the support for the NHC scheme and progressive/personal handicaps. It is preconfigured for the NHC scheme but anyone who wishes can modify the templates to allow it to calculate the handicaps to their own rules.

By all means have a discussion on the merits of the method of calculation here but please remember I did not set the rules for the calculations only the ability to process them. So I would be interested in improving the interface/method of calculation and any suggestions are welcome. Comments on the NHC rules should be directed to the RYA. Questions on how it is calculated I am of course happy to assist with.

Tried 2.9.3 on last years results by aliasing as a new class and setting handicap to NHC, however whilst it calculates results correctly using a TCF no handicap updates occur. Then when i go to Exit it brings up the Turn OFF Computer window, and even if I select Cancel it still almost turns off, but leaves a blank SW window Ctr Alt Del still brings up Task Manager which shows SW still running, and I can end process, but that just leaves me with a blank screen, and I have to turn off and restart PC. I did at one stage see the message ‘Cant find SWHelper’ but cant repeat that. Running on a Dell laptop WinXP SP3 with MSE antivirus. I bit stuck now!

Regards

John

Hi John,

Could you give me some more details, Were you using internal or external mode and was it Club or Regatta mode? How many competitors in the file? - Could you send me your blw file so I can test it out with your file.

Did you try it with the sample files first? Did it work with the sample files?

Regards

Jon

Thanks for the rapid response, in the end I deleted everything to do with Sailwave from the PC (apart from my blw files) downloaded again so it did a complete full fresh install rather than update what was there (V2.8.5) and all is now fine. Maybe my original download got corrupted somehow. Interesting to see it did not change the original PY based results very much, particularly as I guessed some base values as a few boats were not in the tables issued today.

Many thanks

John

Jon,

Having said everything seemed to work ok during the trials last week, I have just updated my results with todays cruiser race, and have noticed that the sheet is not re-ordering competitors properly.

.blw attached

I assume this is an excel sheet issue and to be honest I can fix it just by re-ordering on corrected time on the excel sheet which doesn’t seem to be happening.

I am a little concerned that this might be to do with an error I recieved immediately prior to re-scoring.

The error code was “Untrapped error #99 (object error) has occured following execution of GETCALCU”

Hope the show has gone well

Paul

Thanks Paul,

I’ve posted an updated version 2.9.4 on the Sailwave web site - Testing with your file - I found although the SWHelper was auto converting the PY to TCF and back again. Sailwave itself was not auto-detecting the rating scheme used for NHC so was doing its calculations on TCF using a PY number which gave some strange results. I’ve added the ability to auto-detect the rating used in NHC to Sailwave now and it will autodetect TCF, PY or VY

I’ve also fixed the SWHelper handling blank races in the midst of sailed races. Your sample had a race 2 which was not sailed which confused the SWHelper. It should now handle this correctly.

Let me know how this works for you

Thanks

Jon
