Sailwave

Hi Chris,

I am a registered user of Sailwave (Midland Optimist Team) for which
many thanks. I have recently changed my email address, though, which is
now chris.hadden@dsl.pipex.com

Details updated; thanks.

A) As an incentive to members to do their duties, we award average
points for any race in a series where they have been duty - this means
replacing a DNC with a calculated average. This is further complicated
because a lot of our racing is handicap, so we couldn't just put a
points score in manually.

Each code is defined in Sailwave by a chosen "method" - there are various
averaging methods. If you find you need a method that does not exist, let
me know and I can extend the repertoire. The average you mentiion should be
in there. See Edit+ScoringSystem->ScoringCodes->Edit(code).

B) Because the same competitors (ie members) might (or of course might
not) compete in several different series during the year, is it possible
to set up a datastore of competitors, who can be "picked" for a series
rather than having to enter the details each time?

A real database is planned. but at present you do do this by using a
Sailwave series. Use existing series to merge into one bif series and then
use this as your database. You can then import form it using
Files+ImportCompetitorsFromAnotherSailwaveSeries(or something like that).

C) There is also a rather interesting club rule that allows a member to
change a boat once during each series (including from one class to
another) - don't ask me why we allow such a stupid rule, its buried in
the mists of time, but like all club rules, changing it would be a major
political issue!! I cannot even see how one would describe a business
rule to cover this, let alone code it, but I thought I would ask ....

presumably you mean from a handicap POV? You can define a gandicap per
competitor per race from Edit+Result - this is the common solution to this
'problem'.

D) A real bugbear for me as a user is the details screen for entering
competitors. I never use all the fields, and often only a few, and I
never find anyone with a crew called "Competitor 26" etc. I just
wondered if it is possible to configure the data entry by being able to
select or deselect specific fields when the series is first set up, so
that the data entry screen thereafter only shows the fields you are
using?

I'll add it to the todo list. If you don't use the crew (for exmaple)
column you can hide it form the main view and then you don't see the
"ocmpeitot 26's" etc.

E) If competitors have entered a series, it is straightforward to put
their details in before using the Sail Number wizard. But in a
Traveller series (or similar) you get different people turning up for
some events, and don't always capture them until entering results.
Would it be possible to have a button in the Sail Number wizard that if
the sail number doesn't resolve you can fire up the New Competitor data
entry form, add the new person, then carry on entering results?

Already on the list; agree it's needed.

Regards,
Colin
