COGS runs a series of 6 races spread across the season. Most boats enter the series but sometimes a boat will enter just a single race. Is there a simple way to score that boat in the race but not in the series as we don’t want their entry to inflate the DNC scores of the series entrants?
I understand what you are saying but you would have to be careful to conform with the NoR and SI’s.
You could publish the race results and then exclude him and rescore the series as if he didn’t race, but what happens if he then races in another race later in the series?
You could manually set the DNC and DNF points, etc, in the Scoring codes, but this would also change for the race he was in.
The question is, how much does it affect the results anyway? The top few will probably have sailed all or most of the races, and I assume that you will probably have one or two discards after the 6 races, which means any DNCs will be counted as discards. Once you get down to the bottom of the fleet, how much difference is one point going to make, bearing in mind that the extra points are applied to all those with DNCs
COGS is not like a regatta compressed into a short timeframe. We run offshore and coastal passage races spread across the season. We make a clear distinction in the NOR between entering the series and entering an occasional race, but boats that have entered the series still tend to dip in and out due to an over-crowded calendar, holiday cruising and other commitments, and several can still be carrying a DNC after their two discards. We can lose a race and therefore a discard due to weather and also often get 2-3 boats entering just the final race which has then affected the series results.
We can score the series entrants normally within Sailwave and also score the race separately with the additional boats in a simple spreadsheet, but I was wondering if there is a method within Sailwave to save this duplication.
Hi Tim,
It might be possible to do what you are looking for using ‘Aliases’.
Kind regards,
Huw
Thanks Huw. I’m not familiar with Aliases but will look into that as a possible solution.
I use Aliases quite a lot and it can get complicated.
To do what you are looking for I would use fleets or another unused column like Bow Number and assign it to ‘series’ or ‘single’. Then you can score a result as a single fleet and separately do it scoring by fleet individually or in this case Bow Number. It will then ignore the single racers as an entirely separate result. Publish only the series result.
Also though not as per RRS we set DNC as maximum starters in any one race. That way it keeps the DNC more reasonable by never higher than the most attended race.
