Scoring issue

I'm having a scoring issue with Sailwave right now and can't seem to sort it out.

There's a race we run at Toronto Windsurfing Club which is scored on the basis of elapsed time, where there are 6 different fleets, most of which have slightly different start times. I've entered all the competitors into one sailwave file with their fleet in the appropriate column. Since each start qualifies as a separate race, I created 6 races all with the correct start times. I have entered the finish times for the individual competitors into the appropriate race and this is where Sailwave seems to have an issue with this set up. When it tries to score the event as there are blank entries for the competitors who did not compete in the other races (fleets) I get the following error message "Null list of races for accumulative elapsed times in start..."

Any suggestions as how to score this race or do I have to create a separate sailwave file for each fleet?

Cheers,

Nick Cox

Nick,

I f you could post the .BLW file I will take a look. Quick

suggestion have you selected in the screen where you set up the
differentt starts that you are using finish time or elapsed time NOT
place.

Hi Nick,

The approach used at my Club to score a similar sounding event is to enter the competitors with the Fleet attribute set as appropriate, then in the “Edit Race” tab, to define the set of start times for each Fleet, so that we have several different Fleets, each with its own start time, for each race in the series. (see below)

You can set up / modify the starts for each fleet with the “New” and “Edit” buttons beside the start list

You then enter the results using the Sail No wizard, and all the results for each separate start go into the same race. When you score the race, you can tell Sailwave either to score each fleet separately, or if you want an overall result, you can tell it to score all the competitors as one group. In that case, SW uses the calculated elapsed time for each competitor as the basis for calculating the results.

If your results are calculated on handicap, I’m not aware of any way of using a different handicap system for different fleets, but we use PY for the handicap fleets, and we put in the PY for the One-Design fleets, so the overall finishing positions are worked out on the basis of the PY handicaps.

Hi Ian,

I think that the method you describe will work. I had a quick look at the SW file and it seems to be just the ticket. Thanks

Hi Ian,

Well I tried what you suggested and now I'm REALLY irritated since after entering all the finish time I'm STILL getting the same error message "Null list of races for accumulative elapsed times in start - SUP - Long". Frustrating and NOT fun! :frowning:

The box adjacent to the accumulated elapsed time box is empty for all starts. If you populate it with 1 (and other races that will be included) it overcomes the error.

Apologies for not responding sooner, lost access to the Internet

I have no looked at your file and made a small change to the set-up

William,

I tried what you suggested but just ended up with a redundant set of rankings in the race column that are identical to those under 'rank' and the loss of all the finish times. Is it possible to preserve the finish times AND have a ranking when the race is scored this way?

William,

I tried what you suggested but just ended up with a redundant set of rankings in the race column that are identical to those under ‘rank’ and the loss of all the finish times. Is it possible to preserve the finish times AND have a ranking when the race is scored this way?

The box adjacent to the accumulated elapsed time box is empty for all starts. If you populate it with 1 (and other races that will be included) it overcomes the error.

Hi Ian,

Well I tried what you suggested and now I’m REALLY irritated since after entering all the finish time I’m STILL getting the same error message “Null list of races for accumulative elapsed times in start - SUP - Long”. Frustrating and NOT fun! :frowning:

The .blw file is posted in the Files section.

Hi Nick,

The approach used at my Club to score a similar sounding event is to enter
the competitors with the Fleet attribute set as appropriate, then in the
“Edit Race” tab, to define the set of start times for each Fleet, so that we
have several different Fleets, each with its own start time, for each race
in the series. (see below)

You can set up / modify the starts for each fleet with the “New” and “Edit”
buttons beside the start list

You then enter the results using the Sail No wizard, and all the results for
each separate start go into the same race. When you score the race, you can
tell Sailwave either to score each fleet separately, or if you want an
overall result, you can tell it to score all the competitors as one group.
In that case, SW uses the calculated elapsed time for each competitor as the
basis for calculating the results.

If your results are calculated on handicap, I’m not aware of any way of
using a different handicap system for different fleets, but we use PY for
the handicap fleets, and we put in the PY for the One-Design fleets, so the
overall finishing positions are worked out on the basis of the PY handicaps.

Subject: [sailwave] Scoring issue

I’m having a scoring issue with Sailwave right now and can’t seem to sort it
out.

There’s a race we run at Toronto Windsurfing Club which is scored on the
basis of elapsed time, where there are 6 different fleets, most of which
have slightly different start times. I’ve entered all the competitors into
one sailwave file with their fleet in the appropriate column. Since each
start qualifies as a separate race, I created 6 races all with the correct
start times. I have entered the finish times for the individual competitors
into the appropriate race and this is where Sailwave seems to have an issue
with this set up. When it tries to score the event as there are blank
entries for the competitors who did not compete in the other races (fleets)
I get the following error message “Null list of races for accumulative
elapsed times in start…”

Any suggestions as how to score this race or do I have to create a separate
sailwave file for each fleet?

Cheers,

Nick Cox

Same problem. getting the same error message. CHanged the entries from all digits, to /, to : and still getting the same frustrating message. I think the new version is just too Ylucky

There’s a race we run at Toronto Windsurfing Club which is scored on the

Any suggestions as how to score this race or do I have to create a separate

sailwave file for each fleet?
