Scoring Multiple starts

I may have to score multiple starts in an upcoming regatta because
there are too many for one start line. They will be split into 4
groups and paired off against each other in a rotation. Scoring is
fine and having multiple 1st, 2nd, 3rd works but if someone has a DNC,
DNF etc. they get points for the number in the total series plus 1.
Is this normal for this sort of situation? I can't find any rules that
spell out specifically what to do and I can't get Sailwave to assign
points based on the number of boats in each start.
Any Help from previous regattas would be appreciated.

Ian,

The defaults are as you have stated. However, it comes down to what the
Sailing Instructions say. If they do not make a statement then Sailwave
is doing things properly.

It is usual in these circumstances to set DNF, DNC etc to be the sum of
the two largest groups, for example

Yellow 23 competitors

red 24 competitors

blue 23 competitors

green 23 competitors

DNC, DNF etc will be equal to 47

To do this in Sailwave you have to set the points for DNF, DNC manually
by clicking the scoring systems button then the scoring codes tab and
finally edit the DNF code to have the radio button near the bottom set
against Score a fixed number of points N then set the value of 47 from
my example but using your value at the top in the value box.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards,

Huw

Thanks that makes more sense. I also found the option to use the max number of starters in any Start +N which will, I think work almost as well. Enjoy sailing . It’s great to be part of the Sailwave family.

Ian,

I have just done a little test and the option you have found does not
work for me I created a new file with 8 competitors in 4 colour groups with 2 boats
per group, entered a set of results with 2 boats be scored DNF. The DNF
points allocated were 9 not 5, which it should be as the largest start
group is 4, i.e. 2+2.
Kind regards,
