Scoring OCS, BFD, DNF etc

There may already be an answer for this query, but I wonder if there is a way of scoring a penalty based on the number of boats starting all races in a series. For example;

30 boat fleet

3 races

14 boats start race 1

12 boats start race 2, but two of those boats are different to those in race 1

17 boats start race 3, but four of those boats are different to those in races 1 & 2

so 20 boats have sailed in the series.

How can I make any boats starting a race but not finishing be given a score equal to the number of boats sailed in the series + 1, i.e. 21 points?

DNC boats would be scored the number of boats entered for the series +1.

Is it possible for a new scoring code method to be created?

Many thanks.

Jools.

Hi Jools,

It’s very easy to configure the letter scores to what you want. See below:

You’ve not included your Notice of Race / Sailing Instructions. I recommend that you have a look RRS Appendix A9 and check that you proposed score change doesn’t violate the NoR, Si’s or the RRS.

Hi Jools,

Yes you can create new scoring codes - select one that is similar to the new one and click on New

I don’t quite understand you say you have a 30 boat fleet but only 20 have sailed in the series.

Is this because you have pre-entered them as possibly sailing.

If so then simply double-click in the exclude and they will still be available to you if they decide to enter but will be excluded from the series

You can edit any of the codes to perform as you wish.

Jon,

Thanks for your reply. Tried the exclude competitor option, but they still showed, at the top of the table, in the published results.

I can see that a new scoring code can be created, but I wondered if a new scoring method (as in the choice of radial/radio buttons to choose from on the Method tab) could be created/programmed to cover the number of ‘Boats sailed in Series’ situation?

Peter, sorry, but your image did not come through - though I suspect it might have showed the Scoring Codes tab of the Edit Scoring system dialog.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Jools.

Hi Julian - If you have excluded them it should then have changed the scoring as per your request. If you don’t want to publish them click the X in the Ribbon at the top and they will be hidden until you click it again

There is already a button for number of boats in the series

Jon

Hi Jools

If you have excluded them it should now score them as requested. If you don’t want to publish the excluded competitors simply click on the X in the ribbon and they will disappear until you click it again.

There is already a method for the number of boats in the series

Jon

Hi Jon,

Ah, so simple! Got it now.

Re: boats in series, yes I saw that there is a button for the number of boats entered in the series, but not sailed in the series, hence my original question. However, this is not not necessary as the exclusion option does the trick nicely.

For info, we tend to enter the whole fleet (all boats in one class in the club) in each seasonal race (as they have been paid for through the annual race fees) but only score those who have actually raced, or sailed in the series. Now we have a way to exclude those boats who do not sail and a way to prevent those who DNF for whatever reason from being scored the number of boats in fleet + 1.

Very many thanks.

Regards,

Julian.
