Scoring the EYC 2005

Hi Martin,

Your file looks good. I presume you're going to score Male and Female as
two flighted competitions separately using the fleet field *and* score
everybody as one flighted competition too; I had not really thought of that
before but I can't see why it would not work.

PS: I am away between 4th and 12th of August; I will probably be able to log
onto the SUG but will not have a dev capability.

  Hi, Colin.

As I told you before, I'll be scoring the European Youth Championship for
the E-dinghy.

I ran into a little problem: All sailnumbers are varying from 1 to 4
digits.... This way, some are equal without the national code....

This event will be scored using App. LE add.C

Any suggestions on how to solve the "digit" problem?

I could put the national code into the sailno coloumn.....

Sending you attached the first setup....

  regards, Martin

Colin,
My first tought was to set up Male and Female as separate files, but I'll try it with all of them in one...

Is there anyone who have tried it before??

I have a week or so to test it....

Martin

Hi Martin,

We had a Zoom8 GP at my yachclub in may. I did the scoring. There
were some boats with same sailnumber, All started at the same time,
but Boys and Girls were separated in the results.

I made one Sailwavefile, Used Fleets to separate Boys and Girls. Nat
for NAT and SailNo for just the digits. Used SaiNo wizard when input
the results. When I put in the number for eg 33 I had two
competitors (SWE and EST). I just picket one and went on... (The
handwrited lists contained E33 and S33).

No problemas.

12-19 of august I'll do the Europen championship scoring. There will
be many with the same sailnumber

Currently the sailno column sorts ignoring the alphanumeric bits - this can
be useful but it can be a pain too. a solution depends on how you intend to
represent sail numbers; as Anders says, you can just live with the
duplicates and select the correct one when using the wizard - as long as the
result sheet shows which one it is somehow.

Think I'll stick to Anders' solution!

Looks greate to me!

I do not know why the Swedes have a Zoom8 EC after the schools has started here in Norway.... Especially when we just hav bought a Zoom8 to our son...
Perhaps we'll meet in Moss at Nordic?

Colin,
Have not used the "Split into Group" facility before...
It looks to me that I should do that in the EYC, and split by the Fleet column where I separate male/Female...

What does this give me? Will it work like "Score by column"?

Martin

Hi Martin,

Yes they are the same, I'll change the wording to remove 'split' because it
sounds like something happens in addition to the scoring.

Hi Martin,

What about "Score by group, based on:"

Yeah, that sort of thing is better...

NB: Why I changed the user interface... The old way you could score by any
field and score everybody as one group. But you could only score by a field
in one way and score everybody as one group in one way. With the new
system, you can still score by any field and still score everybody as one
group, but you can score by the same field in a number of ways and score
everybody as one group in a number of ways - without having to change
scoring system settings each time.

Hi, Colin.

I need to sort things out, so I'm asking some dumb questions... Often the best way to sort out things..

In the EYC, we're going to have two separate race areas. One for males and one for females. I also administer 2 nice ladies, who shall be entering the results.

So, I think I should set up two separate SW files on two computers; one for males and one for females. Then each RO could score, and administer, "their own" fleet (F/M).

What would the advantage of having 1 SW file be?
What is the disadvantage?

I've often been ask if two persons can enter results simultaneously to one file. I know the answer, but it might be a common wish....

Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin

I will be facing a similar problem for a large General Handicap Regatta.
My plan is to get a number of people entering results into their own spread sheet (likely to be 1 or
2 pages of results from the CB)
Each of these files will then be imported into the one SW file

Regards
Ralph
