Scroll results for individual fleets

We would like to display Sailwave results for an event on a screen in the club house. However there would be results for several different fleets, which we would like to display in rotation. Is there any way to publish results in this way?

Richard

Hi Richard,

I know what you want to do is possible as Colin did the same thing a

few years ago at a Sail for Gold event.

Kind regards,

Huw

If you can’t wait for the web solution or don’t have web access, should be possible with a little javascript in the template. Do you (a) have a standard file naming convention (b) have any idea how long they should stay on screen before advancing forward?

I was thinking of doing something simillar at my club with a screen to be funded by sponsors who would get ads between results…

Colin,

what are your timescales?

We don't have a definite timescale, but if it's possible to formalise the feature at some point that would be great!

Richard

We don't have a standard file naming convention. I imagined, somewhat naively I suspect, that there might be a single html file with embedded javascript perhaps, displaying each fleet in rotation. I'm getting well out of my depth here!

As for display times, I think we might need to experiment there.

Thx for all the replies,

Richard

Are the fleets in the one file? Can you point us to an example? Its certainly possible with Races rather than fleets in one file but i have no experience with multiple fleets in one file…

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of loading alias competitors from an Excel (CSV) file? Basic situation is that I have a number of handicap classes that races under two different handicaps simultaneously - i.e. each boat will get two results per race, one under IRC handicap, and one under ECHO handicap (a progressive handicap, similar to golf handicaps). I handle this using the alias feature of Sailwave (unless anyone has a better way). Question is whether I can load the alias data from a CSV file. Previously I’ve loaded competitors from CSV for one handicap, then manually set up aliases for the second handicap - a little laborious for 100+ competitors.

Thanks, Ian.

At a guess, you should be able to duplicate the data in the csv file, manipulate as necessary and then load the file once into sailwave

no way at present - the alt way is to not using
aliases - change the rating system as required and publish -
making sure the update ratings box is ticked.

i've realised the alias feature is too clunky - what it needs is

an expression way of working. having set up the expressions
sailwave create the aliases dynamically. can still leave the by
hand method as is - this could be on top.

e.g. a specification like this for each batch of aliases needed.

  expression: fleet=py

  set field: fleet=echo

  set field: ..=...

  ...

then all you need to do is set up a single expression and a list

of field changes to apply and that’s it.

would that be useful - Q to other alias users as well...?

the problem is chicken and egg - to import an
alias you need to know the competitor handle and you don’t know
that until imported. i suppose it could be done with sail number
or something but its a right palavor to setup.

This method seems to display the different results pages at timed intervals, but does not vertically scroll the page which would be a more useful aspect

[sailwave] Re: Scroll results for individual
fleets

We don't have a standard file naming

convention. I imagined, somewhat naively I
suspect, that there might be a single html
file with embedded javascript perhaps,
displaying each fleet in rotation. I’m
getting well out of my depth here!

As for display times, I think we might need

to experiment there.

                        Thx for all the replies,

                        Richard

If you can’t wait for the web

should be possible with a little

they should stay on screen before
advancing forward?

Ian,

This is pretty much the way I would like to be able to view the results. I was hoping to be able to scroll to each fleet in turn from a single Results html file, using the embedded NAME tags, e.g. http://datastore.parkstoneyachtclub.com/Results/easterseries.html#wayfarer

I was hoping that it might be possible to insert some javascript in a template, but the fleets would vary from one event to the next.

Pls tell me if my ideas are completely off the wall!

Richard

Richard,

We did this for the Irish Youth Nationals last weekend. You can see the scrollong page at:
    http://www.rsgyc.ie/mitsubishi_results/live.html
If you view the source of this page you'll see the relatively simple javascript behind it.

The scrolling essentially runs through the 6 results pages which are also individually shown of the results page:
    http://www.dublinbay2012.com/mitsubishi2011/index.php/results

The section of the JavaScript that says:

var result_files = [
			'2011_420.htm' , '2011_LR.htm' , '2011_L47.htm' , '2011_OPT.htm' , '2011_OPC.htm' , '2011_FEVA.htm' , '2011_TOPPER.htm'The
		];

could be updated to something like - including EVERY POSSIBLE FLEET:

var result_files = [
			'#wayfarer' , '#topper' , '#dart' , '#dolphin'
		];

If no fleet exists in that series then the screen doesn't advance and stays where it is (so you may want to craft the order of files in the right sequence so that you put common fleet - uncommon fleet - common fleet etc)

And just to make you aware all fleet names are lower case and spaces replaced by underscores.

I think that will work but it may need a little tweak as I haven't studied how the script called the page...
