others will jump in here, but Javascript and Java are entirely different animals. The only similarity is in the Java element of the name. Javascript is an interpretive language designed to interact with web markup but Java is a full-featured programming language developed by Sun Microsystems (rip), which is related to C & C++. In theory Java will work on any platform (i.e. Windows, Linux and MacOS) more or less out of the box. You could even write an application like SailWave in it. Javascript will also work on any platform, but it’s really there to add a bit of interactivity or functionality to web pages. so no need to worry about server side Java in this case.
