Series results resolving a tie

When the series was scored it separated a tie for first but this does not seem right.

on a series with 7 races and 3 discards the results were

1st had (dnc),(2),1,(dnc),1,2,1, 5points

2nd had 1,1,(2),1,(2),(dnc),2, 5 points

to me on countback the placings should be reversed as the sailor came first had 2 dncs and the one place second had a 2nd and dnc so should win on countback.

I have ticked the box apply isaf appendix 8.2

I have probably made an error somewhere in the setup but cannot see where

Help please

Nicola

Hi Nicola,

The tie is broken as per RRS A8.2. The 1st place finish in the last race beats the 2nd place finish.

Hi Nicola,

Normally discards are ignored for the purpose of tie breaking.

So in this case they both had three 1st and a 2nd. Therefore the tie break is the best result in the last race.

Sailwave can be made to take discards into account as the international rules for windsurfing do this. But if you want to use this then you have to enable the non standard tie breaks in the the setup user interface

Regards

Jon

Tiebreaker - first level [RRS A8.1] - rank race scores excluding discards

Both boats had 1,1,1,2 so they remained tied and must look at second
level [discards are ignored so your point is moot]

Tiebreaker - second level [RRS A8.2] - who beat who in the last race
including discards

In last race, 1st had a 1st and 2nd had a 2nd so 1st wins the tiebreaker

Pretty straight forward, if you actually read the wording of A8.
