series scoring

In a 4 race series with one discard one boat has scored 2 wins and 2
3rds, giving a total of 5 points.

A second boat has scored 1 win and 2 3rds, giving a total of 5
points. When scoring Sailwave shows the boat with 2 wins as second to
the boat with only 1 win. Why is this & can it be rectified?

Regards,

Lionel

Lionel,

I am assuming the pattern of race results below for each boat as you have said the second boat has “2 3rds” which would not cause a problem as then it would score, assuming the fourth result was the discard, 7 points net

Boat 1 1,1,2,2 with one discard equals 5 points net

Boat 2 1,2,2,3 with one discard equals 5 points net

On the most first procedure Boat one wins which is what Sailwave is saying as per Appendix A 8.1

Kind regards,

Huw

In a 4 race series with one discard

So 3 races to count, hence:

one boat has scored 2 wins and 2
3rds, giving a total of 5 points.

Agree: scoring race points are 1, 1 and 3 => total of 5

A second boat has scored 1 win and 2 3rds, giving a total of 5
points.

Disagree: How does 1, 3, 3 => total of 5?!? What are the totals in
the points column? What do you have set for a DNC? (Assuming that the
second boat only sailed 3 races.)

Hello Huw,

I wrote the scores down wrong. I have resent the question to sailwave. The boat that sailwave scored as first actually scored 2 2nds and a win ie 5 pts. He did not race the 4th race which was counted as DNS & was awarded 47 points. I have attached the file for you to look at.

Hi Lionel

Just had a look at your file & couldn’t find anything wrong, so I clicked on score series again & guess what - it worked with the correct results on tie breaks!!!

What is interesting is that if you look at the ranking column in your original file, the rankings are correct but in a different order

This normally occurs if you score a series but then re-sort the series on another column

In your file, the Nett column has a superscript 1 in the column title

This shows that the last sort to be carried out was on this column

When I do the same, the tied results are in the wrong order (as per your original file)

If you score the series again, everything is correct & the Ranking column has a superscript 1, showing that this was the last sort

Are you by any chance clicking on the Nett column, thinking that this is “scoring the series”???

It is always good practice in SW to click on the “score series” button to get the final series results, especially if you have been looking through the data

Hope this solves your problem

Regards

Ralph

Hi Lionel

The problem with your file is, that it is sorted by the Nett-colum...
If you sort it by the Rank-colum everything is in order.
Then "Midtnight Express" is in front, where it is supposed to be

Remember to sort by Rank, but when you press the [score series]
button, Sailwave automatic does that, and you have a finished list to
publish/print in the correct order.

Hi Ralph,

I have been very impressed with all the help that has been coming in over this one, so thankyou very much for your assistance. We have as a group at our Club been using sailwave for the whole season & in the whole we get on ok with it. There is one other problem that we get. We find that if we create a new series, and enter the type of boat against the helm, the PY number given doesn’t seem to work at all & any times that we enter are not modified. We have found that we have had to highlight the PY box & enter manually the PY for that boat. After doing this all seems to work well. Any suggestions?

Regards,

Lionel
