Having a few problems setting up the software to our clubs specifications.
Have posted queries (as below) on forum message board. Any ideas gratefully
received.
1. Have imported all our competitors into our first series (about 500) but
they are all being counted, even if they have not sailed a race in this
series, when I calculate the fleet - we are getting some very high scores as
our DNS and DNC values are no in series +1. Do I have to put in only those
who have sailed which will be a right pain, do I simply delete all unsailed
competitors at the end of the series which would also be a right pain or is
there some way of telling the software to calculate using those competitors
who have sailed at all?
2. Discards - we have to sail a minimum number of races to qualify for
discards but the software seems to be calculating them based on whether or
not a race has been sailed. I.e. if we have to sail 9 races before any
discard can be applied and someone only sails 1 race the software is
discarding DNC values even though they should not yet be discarding.

Guy, maybe a discard profile as follows would answer your 2nd question…
0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 etc etc
Click on unsailed competitors would help on q 1

I've found this too - and even if I hide unsailed competitors they
still influence the DNC score, which is by design but a nuisance for
my purposes.
What I'm trying for my second sailwave series (just started) is
keeping a blank Sailwave file with all the possible entrants in. Then
when new people join the active series I can import them from the
other file. Time will tell how much of a nuisance this is, but it
seems promising so far.
Shall be interested to know what others do...

Typical set up is as follows. Create a folder for Sailwave 'template'
series - series that you'll never score - they just hold lists of
competitors - you've probably done this already. Create one of these
'template' series containing everybody (as you have done) and also create
some 'template' series containing typical sets of competitors - this may or
may not be appropriate to you - it depends if you're going to score fleets
in the same series file or not. You could also create 'template' series for
different scoring configurations - using File+SaveAs to create a new open
meeting for example.
Now you have some useful lists of competitors etc. Create you first
Sailwave series that you are going to score and import competitors from one
of the template series using File+Import. Thereafter the easiest way to
create new series is using File+SaveAs on an existing series and import new
competitors that decide to race as necessary. I'll tweak the competitors
import to be drag and drop as soon as I can to make it all a little easier.

I'm personally not familiar with the concept of competitors having to
qualify for discards and having a different number of discards to other
boats - perhaps I have misinterpreted you?. Discarding DNCs if competitors
don't sail is standard Appendix A. In Sailwave/AppendixA there will be a
number of discards that are applied to everybody in the series. For
example consider a 4 race series with the discard profile 0,0,1,2. i.e.
when one or two races have been sailed no discards applied, when 3 races
have been sailed 1 discard is applied and when 4 races have been sailed 2
discards are applied. A typical set of results may look like this - 4 races
have been sailed so each boat has two discards applied.
Total
BoatA (1) (1) 1 1 2
BoatB (2) 2 2 (DNC) 4
BoatC 3 3 (DNC) (DNC) 6
Boat4 4 (DNC) (DNC) DNC 9 Assuming DNC=5
This is as per App A - I'd need to see your SIs if they were non-standard to
see how they could be dealt with in Sailwave. Sailwave is essentially
Appendix A compliant with a few generally useful tweaks.

Many thanks - have basically set up the template as you suggested. As for
the discards will go back to our SI's to check exactly when our discards
should apply.
