Setting up new user

I am attempting to set up our 2004 racing series, and I have some
questions about the Sailwave setup. We are using PHRF Time on Distance,
Low Point system. We have three series during the year: Spring, Summer
and Fall. We have three separate fleets (no one-design fleets, all are
PHRF rated). If all fleets raced exactly the same course (and therefore
the same distance), I understand I could set up a single series and race
all the fleets within that series. The only variable would be the start
time.

However, each fleet most often sails a different course, and hence a
different distance from the other fleets. If I called a new race for
each fleet within the same series, I would get a bunch of un-sailed
races for the other fleets. I believe I would be better off if I set up
a separate series for each fleet for each of the three Spring, Summer
and Fall series. Instead of three series, I would have nine series, for
example 'A' Fleet Spring Series, 'B' Fleet Spring Series, and so forth.
Am I essentially correct on this?

Also, on the Scoring Codes Tab, can you explain the "penalty" column,
or can you refer me to another authority to determine how this works.
The Edit, Properties screen indicates a "penalty or redress code". I am
at a bit of a loss.

Thanks for your assistance on this.

You don't have to set up separate series, just set the distance separately
for each fleet. On the Edit menu, pick Fleets and then for each fleet (use
new if you have to to create each fleet) set the race distance to a string
of values separated by commas, e.g. 3.2,5.7,4.2 would mean race 1 for the
fleet was 3.2 miles, race 2 was 5.7 and race 3 was 4.2. You can even
combine these three series at the end of the year to determine an overall
score but remember that when you combine series, Sailwave doesn't update the
race distances. You have to go in to the combined series and do that
manually.
