Setting up OCF

Hi: I've been dragged back to score more regattas and been presented with OCF. How do I set up Sailwave to give an OCF code plus the finishing place?
I haven't looked at the latest iteration of Sailwave as my older version is adequate for a bunch of dinghy fleets.
Perhaps I'm merely being slow on the uptake!
Thanks.

Hello Donald,

If you set up your OCF as a copy of the standard RDG code, just with the name changed, you can then put in the code in the Results Wizard, and the software will prompt for the points. Using the standard Appendix A scoring system, points = place. When you publish, set your view of the summary table to show Scored Rank, then your published results will show the points / place allocated to the competitor with OCF beside it. That seems to be what you are looking for!

If you award consecutive points to each of your laggards, you should finish up with a complete sequence of finishing places!

I hope this helps!

Regards,

Ian Day

Hello Huw: Every year they drag me out of the crypt and present me with a new problem. Here is the relevant part of the SIs and it is all I’ve been given thus far:

13.3 Any boat finishing more that 20 minutes after the first boat shall be scored OCF in accordance with 13.4.

13.4 When it is in the best interest of the fleet and its competitors, the race committee may award finishing places to boats which are delaying the finish of the race (on course finish). The scoring abbreviation for an on course finish will be OCF. This changes rules 28.1, 35 and A4.

I assume that in the Race Column I want to see (28 OCF) or whatever place they are in. It would be nice if could be done using the Finish Wizard and insert an OCF code plus the position. Wishful thinking. I think the only way is to do the few stragglers by hand but I don’t know how to generate a place plus the OCF. I will play with it. All the Codes deal with points and percentages but not places.

So, is there a way to generate a place and a code?
Thanks.
Donald

Hi Donald,

As Willi has said the only way in Sailwave is to create the code OCF as a scoring code, sounds to me very much like RDG; except the Race Team decide to award a boat OCF rather than a Protest Committee who award an RDG. I would be interested in seeing the wording of the Sailing Instruction that describes the awarding of the code OCF.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Willi: Thank you, I know about editing the scoring system. What I don’t know is how to set up OCF. I see that one can put in a code and enter finish place by hand. Seems a little crude! An OCF gives the competitor the place where the Finish boat thinks they would have finished but, apparently, one needs to insert OCF beside the finishing place. At least this is what I’ve been told but nobody can tell me how to do it - thus far.
Thanks Donald

Hi Donald,

I would suggest you create the code OCF as a Fixed penalty of 0 points - That is a Method of Scored points + N Points where N is set to 0.
Then just enter their results as normal as if they had crossed the finish line and then click on the result and Edit Results to have a code of OCF it will then display as their position with an OCF next to it. Exactly what you want if I correct.

Regards

Jon
