Shared Crew in Open Meetings (National Series)

Hi,

I am the webmaster and results ‘do’er’ for the National Scorpion Association and am finding Sailwave a fantastic tool to use. Really like it.
There is one thing we need to deal with this year on our Silver Scorpion Circuit. Crews! As most of our Opens are two days or more (and in the inclusive spirit of the class) there is the odd occasion where a crew can only do one day, and another crew is subbed in for the next day. Problem is this has a tendency to mess results up a little (the series is scored separate for crews/helms). We want to recognize everyone who competes, however we don’t want to give them a full score. So we score them as if they tied for a position, so they score +0.5.
The problem we have is if we put two crews tied, the system assumes that there was two actual competitors tied so the next place would be +1
eg if we had a shared crew in fourth place. Your places would be 1,2,3,4.5,4.5,6,7… where we would want to show it 1,2,3,4.5,4.5,5,6,7…

Are there any ways to do this?? A code of some type maybe that we can apply to the scoring
Thanks John

Hi John,

In the Setup - User interface you can tick the box allow multiple 1sts, 2nds, etc

I have a bit of difficulty totally visualising how you want to see the results

Perhaps you could give a mock-up sample of how you would like it.

The thing to remember is there is a difference between places and points and rank

Rank is derived from the points and you could have multiple people tied if their points are the same and can’t be broken on tie breaks

Rank is always a whole number

Position (Finishing) is always a whole number

but points are not - you can specify the precision.

Hi John,

Thanks for you quick reply, however the screen shot doesn’t seem to be showing.

Can you give me the route to that tab in the menu

eg File–Save …

We have seperate socring for helms and crews in the overall circuit, meaning that crews have there own set of results

In some cases, as most of our events are 2 days we have an occurrence of 1 crew doing one day, not being able to make the 2nd day so someone else subbing in.

Obviously this gives us a situation where we have technically two people finishing in the same place.

We add +0.5 to both crews as technically they didn’t do a full event

So for example, say Rich & John did day one of an event, and Rich & Paul did day two, and came fourth over all

John & Pauls would both be awarded 4.5pts for the event in the series

Problem is, by doing this, whoever finished 5th when scoring is awarded 6pts as the system thinks that John & Paul tied.

I have approached this by creating two rules, one to add +0.5 to day ones crew and a second that works like RGD but with 6.2 unticked in the options

This works but is a little untidy.

Any thoughts

Hi John,

Jon did give you the route ;-)

But it is Setup | User Interface option on menu bar, i.e. 5th across

from File. Then put check mark beside multiple 1st, 2nds. This needs
to be followed by setting the same option on the Race tab of the
scoring system window (bottom right of window).

Kind regards,
Huw

OK done that,

Now I have as per the example point allocated

1=1

2=2

3=3

4(a)=4

4(b)=4.5

5=6

7=8

which isn’t the desired effect

i would have expected to see

1=1

2=2

3=3

4(a)=4

4(b)=4

5=5

6=6

and so on…

(not taking into account the +0.5 for now)
