shifted start times

I have used Sailwave for the first time last week (1.43) after running
into troubles with our previous software. I've managed to score the
Texel Dutch Open in a matter of hours from scratch (see
http://www.roundtexel.com/content/results_14062002_overall.html). I
was
very impressed by all the possibilities and I intend to use the
program
more often, if the following is cleared up:

Most regattas my friends and I score, feature open catamarans of
widely different Texel Rating. Therefore, we usually split the fleet
into a number of smaller fleets and start groups. These groups are
started off at 5-minute intervals (unless there is a General Recall).
e.g.:

Start Group Class Start Time
  1 iF20 11:00
  2 F18 + 5 minutes
  3 Open < 109 + 5 minutes
  4 Open => 109 + 5 minutes

At the time of the first start, we start a Seiko stopwatch with a
printer (http://www.sportstimeusa.com/seiks1stopwi1.html). At the
finishline, all boats across the line have their sailnumer and type
noted, along with the total elapsed time as printed on the stopwatch.
This is recorded in our scoring system and the shifted start time is
automatically subtracted as per the start group of each boat. The
program is loaded with the time shifts per start group for each race.

Is it possible to do something of the sort in Sailwave? I'm still
browsing the entries in the mailing list (#268 of 911) but I've not
seen any questions/answers to this end yet.

I think this can be done by
assigning each of the boats to the appropriate fleet. Set the
start time for the first boat in each fleet to the appropriate offset

ie iF20 0.00
   F18 0.05

etc.
Then you can just enter the finish times as the time from youre
stopwatch.

Hi,

I have used Sailwave for the first time last week (1.43) after running

into troubles with our previous software. I've managed to score the
Texel Dutch Open in a matter of hours from scratch (see
http://www.roundtexel.com/content/results_14062002_overall.html). <

Do you mind if I create a Sailwave "style" from the colours/layout of your
Texel results? They really are very nice. I can call the style "Texel" or
"RegattaService" and include it in the standard styles if that's OK with
you... no problem if not.

Is it possible to do something of the sort in Sailwave? I'm still

browsing the entries in the mailing list (#268 of 911) but I've not
seen any questions/answers to this end yet.<

Not as it stands; Sailwave currently works from elapsed time or start/finish
times. As I understand it you would like to enter cumulative elapsed time,
adjusted automatically on a per fleet basis. It would have to be
generalised so that the offsets can be changed on a per race basis, but I
can see how to do it fairly easily. I'll add it to the list - but I'm
afraid I can't promise dates because Sailwave is a
spare-time-non-money-making enterprise; although I have managed to crack a
couple of ribs while 'racing' an Inter 20 at the weekend which will get me
off the DIY for a while so perhaps I can give Sailwave some much needed
attention...

It's OK by me, I'd be honored to have the style "Regatta Service
Europe" included.

It would have to be generalised so that the offsets can be changed

I'll add it to the list

I'll do some experimenting with John's suggestion (Msg #917)

I have managed to crack a couple of ribs while 'racing' an Inter 20

at the weekend
You're in good company: professional cat sailor Mitch Booth did sort
of the same on his Hobie Fox during the Round Texel Race.

I think this can be done by
assigning each of the boats to the appropriate fleet. Set the
start time for the first boat in each fleet to the appropriate

offset

ie iF20 0.00
   F18 0.05

etc.
Then you can just enter the finish times as the time from youre
stopwatch.

John,

I've tried your suggestion, and it's close: Sailwave notices the
offset in start time for this fleet (it's printed in the published
results for that fleet). However, when entering the results, the
first start time that's entered in the sailnum wizard is copied into
every following dialog. This is probably the fastest boat of the
first startgroup, therefore the offset is 0.
The default start time for a consecutive wizard entry can be
overriden, but you'd have to check the fleet for this entry every
time. There is as yet no way to correct start times from the results
view for all boats in a fleet, not even with "edit next", nor are the
start times listed in the normal view. This leads to a lot of manual
work, with a large chance for mistakes.
