skipper/crew both scored

For my junior races we score the skipper and crew as if they both skippered the race. I have 2 1st, 2 seconds, 2 thirds, etc. I turned off the tied race function to "none". I now get 2 first, 2 thirds and the number of boats for DNC, DNS etc is twice what it should be. Is there way to handle this so I get the correct number of boats and the places do not skip?

Thanks
Julie

Hi Julie,

You don’t give us all the information as to what other races will happen, as I assume the crew must races with different skippers at some time otherwise there would be no point in separating them. My first thought would be to put them in different fleets assuming you only have a single fleet at the moment, 1 fleet named Crew and one named Skipper and then enter the results for each. You will get 2 first, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds etc and the DNC’s ect will be correct.

Let us know some more details if this is not what you wish to do.

As you probably know the usual procedure is to score the boat which gets the points not the skipper. Having said that, since you have both the skipper and crew name on the results when scoring go to the second alternative on the scoring page and click it and then you can pick the skipper column and score and then choose the crew column and score again. See if that works. Put everything back as if you are scoring a normal race before trying this suggestion. I've never tried to do that but have scored by fleet when the opts race in the red, white and blue divisions. I score regularly and then by fleet. You have to input a R, W, or B in the fleet column when setting up the information in Sailwave.

Thanks for the reply.

The kids switch between skippering and crewing and they switch partners through the summer series. A skipper can also race with a non-junior racer but only the junior racer is scored. If both skipper and crew are junior thay are both scored equally for the race. If only the skipper is junior you will only have one sailor scored in some places.

I also have instances with 2 or 3 little kids sailing with instructors and only the kids are scored. In this instance you might get 2 or 3 firsts, etc.

It may not be possible to use sailwave but I though I would ask.

Below is an example. In the first race the first place and 4th place boat had a junior skipper and an instructor so only 1 racer was scored. The rest of the boats had a junior skipper and crew.

    Race 1 Race 2 Race 3 Race 4
Racer 1 1 1 3 DNC/8
Racer 2 2 2 1 3
Racer 3 2 DNC/7 DNC/7 DNC/8
Racer 4 3 1 3 1
Racer 5 3 3 DNC/7 DNC/8
Racer 6 4 DNF/6 4 5
Racer 7 5 4 5 6
Racer 8 5 DNC/7 DNC/7 DNC/8
Racer 9 DNC/7 DSQ/6 2 4
Racer 10 DNC/7 2 1 3
Racer 11 DNC/7 3 DNC/7 DNC/8
Racer 12 DNC/7 DNC/7 2 4
Racer 13 DNC/7 DNC/7 5 6
Racer 14 DNC/7 DNC/7 DNC/7 2
