I agree with Jon that it was probably done using the alias
functionality in Sailwave. However I would probably create the
Combined fleet first and then alias the competitors at put the alias
into the appropriate one of Gold/Silver/Bronze. Just a slightly
different way of achieving the same goal.
However there is something to be aware of when re-scoring according
to different group criteria. If you score the combined fleet and
have two boats X & Y say who in the Combined results are ranked
X before Y, it is possible when they are in the same sub-group, say
Gold, and re-scored for Y to rank before X.
The event Sailing Instructions should state clearly what is going to
happen. For example in the 2016 RS:X European Championships they
have the following in their SI’s:
Scores for the:
2015 2015 RS:X European Windsurfing Championships and the
2015 Palermo RS:X U21 Windsurfing Championships will be
extracted from the overall @European Open Trophy Results’
without recalculation.
Just pointing out that one needs to be careful otherwise in the case
of an Optimist event I scored in the past before I understood this,
I had parents in quite a flap. As Jon said in a response to a post
in another SUG message in that is wanting to do something similar if
not the same; Oppie parents can be scary but I have meet plenty of
nice ones as well.
Kind regards,
Huw

I am going around in circles every time I try sending the results for my club to the RYA I get an error message HTTP 500, any advice what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for you input. I can see the 'paradox' because it is based on relative position based on the 'competitors' in each subset.
We are having a discussion around how we want to do this
If you don’t score by group, then you end up with the system thinking the competitors aliases are genuine new competitors and the scoring goes a bit haywire
Having just set up 60 boats across up to ten categories it works in the way you have suggested but is quite fiddly.
In my search to solve this found the functionality to set up different starts where you can just select from a list the boats in different starts, this may be the way for sub results to be set up, it seems a bit easier.
Then maybe give the option to either score separately or or inherit the score assigned in the Overall (or base)
The 500 error is an internal error on the RYA server.
I did see it a few times during testing of the new software. It’s probably caused by something in your blw file but agree the system should give you a better error than 500. If you could send me jon@sailwave.com your blw file I’ll investigate it for you. Perhaps one thing you could check is the format of the race dates as these have to be yyyy-mm-dd
Just for anyone following this Thread. The issue was that the file contained blank races. That is races within the series that had no results. The races being sent to the RYA was selected as “*” i.e. All races
The server software doesn’t appear to like you sending races without any results. The work around is to only send the races which have results e.g. use 1-5,7-10 to omit sending race 6
