"subseries" scores?

Hi,
I am planning to use sailwave to score our frostbite series this
year. We race 8 days in the fall, and 8 days in the spring. We have
~4-8 races each day, depending on conditions. We give awards for
each day's winners, as well as overall awards for (1)fall, (2)spring,
and(3)the complete season (fall and spring combined). I'm having
trouble figuring out a way to get sailwave to do this, short of
having each day be a separate series, then combining series to get
fall, spring, and overall. Any thoughts on an easier way? Also, is
there a way to have a series with more than 52 races? We usually
have ~100 or so for the complete season (fall and spring combined).
Thanks,
Scott Walker

Does anybody perhaps know of a Auto Race starting system that can be
purchased to do the following

A Countdown system that can be set to a predetermined time to start
the race.
At the start and the appropriate times it must automatically
sound/fire the horn/gun.
It would also be handy if it was able to hoist the appropriate flag
at that point.

At our club the workboat normally sets off the start sequence and
this quite often is only manned by one person. It is rather
difficult, trying to ferry glide the boat in one position, start a
stopwatch, blow a horn and raise a flag at the same time.

If there is a device that does all this in one go, then perhaps the
workboat could be anchored off and left on its own to allow the guy
in the workboat to join us in our races.

If you know of something like this, please let me know

Terry

Terry,

You could take a look at:

    http://www.sailingtimer.co.uk/

To the best of my knowledge, they do not have a flag hoisting facility at
the moment but it does sound the horn and they are working on adding a large
numerical time display. We do not have one yet so I cannot vouch for them
but we have plans to get one for next season.

We use one of these in our starting hut at Carrickfergus
http://www.sailingtiming.com/
Again it doesn't do the flags.
It gives a ten second warning when a sound signal is about to be made,
so even if the flag man is in the hut he gets a warning to leg it out
to be ready to hoist the flag.
We also have a light wired up in parallel with the horn. Personally I
find this quite useful from a competitor's point of view since it's a
bit like the smoke off a cannon, so you can see the signal even when
it's too windy to hear it. (I know you can see the flags and they are
what you're meant to take timings off, but I just find it gives you an
easier exact reference point in time)

Hi Terry,

I am biased about the following system because it was developed at my club
with input from myself.

You might like to look at PROlog a start and finish time recording system
which runs on a PC. I know about boats and electronics and their
compatibility  PROlog makes sound signals and records when additional
sound signals are made, for example individual & general recall, but does
not hoist flags. As always we do not rely on the system 100%!

In start mode PROlog can be set to begin a start sequence at some point in
the future, it can also cope with General Recalls being rescheduled with
human intervention. PROlog also can speak to the Race Team using
Text-to-Voice synthesis, thereby announcing what flag should now be hoisted
as well as warning at 30-seconds, 15-seconds and then counting down from
10-seconds.

If you are interested the PROlog web site is www.software4clubs.com

There are other systems one of which has been mentioned already in this
sequence of messages, but a couple of others you might look at are
  a.. AutoHoot www.autohoot.com/AutoHoot.htm
  b.. RaceDay http://www.soton.ac.uk/~jets/raceday/

These are all UK developed systems but I know that there are other systems
available in USA & other parts of the world.
Kind regards,
Huw Pearce

Hi Scott,

Nothing built in specifically, although I can see that a facility to igore
certain races as if they had not been sailed might be useful.

I would work like this:-

-Create a new series for the first day's racing.
-Score it and publish.
-Use SaveAs to create the overall series file.
For each successive day:-
-Use SaveAs from the previous day's racing to create a file for the day
and clear out the results etc. Score and publish.
-Merge the day file into the series file, score and publish.

The 52 race limit is a very old restriction. You need to upgradre to a
newer version. Current limit is 250.

Colin J
