Suspending NHC

So, the question: is it possible to suspend NHC recalculation until the end of a regatta?

Some members would like to see the rating fixed for the six races.

Hi Steve - The only way you could do that is use the external mode where it uses an Excel Template and you could modify the template to tell it to only change the ratings for specific races.

Hi Steve,

Question - is the event a standalone 6 races series or in the

middle of a longer series?

If the former why not use one of the rating systems that

calculates the corrected time in the same way as NHC, i.e .
C = E * R, and then at the end of the event change the rating
system to NHC.

You could also either

  • use aliases so one set of results uses NHC and the other set

    uses a fixed rating or
  • set-up two scoring systems [one for NHC and one for fixed

rating] if you do not want to make use of aliases and you select
which to use when scoring the series.
I would appreciate some more detail about the regatta.

Kind regards,

Huw

It is a season ending Regatta, but could also be a special one-or-two day event. I suspect the interest is from boats that see their handicap increase after three races (first day result), then decline over the last three races based on the normal fluctuation.

I tried to check the box that says to keep the rating the same until otherwise, but the NHC calculation seems to override this election. Perhaps my understanding of the race rating check box is limited, what is its function?

For the fixed rating calculation, would I use the custom rating and the c = e * r formula?

Steve - the tick box, if it is unticked means that the rating will only be used for this race. If it is ticked then it will apply to all future races but if you are using NHC the ratings get written for each race by the NHC calculations so effectively this tick box has no effect but if you change the rating system to TCF instead of NHC it will have to be ticked to continue using the latest rating otherwise it will use the default rating for future races. There is no need to use custom rating - Just use TCF - Change the rating to TCF and the NHC calculations will no longer apply.

Thank you Jon. The TCF choice resolved the issue, and I used alias to calculate both ways. This exercise reinforces the NHC system. Much obliged.
