Sv: [sailwave] v1.44 release build

Hi Collin,

Thank you very much for the work with the new merge facilities. It looks great!

I have started to translate the texts to Swedish, it was a lot more than I thought before I started.

I have found some small things so far:

- One wrong spelled word in the edit menu "Mark all sailed comeptitors as included"

- The Publish menu can't be translated

- The long text strings in the sail number wizard can't be translated.

A question:
Is the order of texts under [generic] important ?

Best regards

I’ve expirienced the same problems, but I want to answer this: “A question:
Is the order of texts under [generic] important ?”

I think so, because if “we” have a common structure on this, there could be som “official” translations. As you say, there is alot of work first time. but if we have a common structure, it is easy to correct when Colin makes a change. Especially when he corrects some misspelling…

I gave some suggestions in the last mail, but I do not know if they are possible to make true. If Colin could support us with a text document with all words/sentences, we would have a common structure!

Otherwise som of us have to do it manually…

I can’t supply a complete file because of the dynamic nature of the implementation (Sailwave doesn’t know what it is) but I’ve implemented a helper function that should be just as good and in fact more useful after changes have been made to the Sailwave UI.

I’ve introduced a flag that can be turned on (and off) - the meaning of which is to signify that you want Sailwave to tell you when translations are missing and help you to easily supply them when opening any window.

What will happen is than when you open a window, a list will pop up with any missing translations - there will be facilities to supply the translations there and then - and write them back to your locale file - or - to just write the English to the locale file - allowing you to translate it later. So one way to create a locale file is to just copy and rename eng.ini and then simply use Sailwave. This will be useful because if you have a complete translation but then I change something, it’ll pop up in front of you when you open the window with the change. It will also handle my spelling errors because it’s generating the left hand side of the translation for you. I’ll try and upload within the next few days…

NB: Paragraphs of text made up of text strings on a tab or windows background (like the second tab in the SailNo wizard) need to be translated on a per line basis because they are in fact comprised on N individual string controls.

I’ll extend the infrastructure soon to handle error, ‘one-time’ and warning messages that pop up as you use Sailwave.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Colin

Hi Colin, Martin, Bjorn,

any helper function would be great.

Which way should we go to exchange the list of english words for
translation? I think all the translators should work on only one english
original .ini file.
At first every translator can extract the english strings from one part of sailwave (e.g sailnumber wizard, competitor window,...)
Then we build one english .ini file and translate it into our language.
Any comments?

Regards
Andreas

Hi Bjorn,

Translating the Publish menu:- if you mean the menu items,
the texts for the Publish menu items are contained in the
respective HTML template files.
You need to look for the Sailwave magic tags near the top of each
template.

- The Publish menu can't be translated

Hmmmm, this may be a dangerous operation. It means that we needs separate templates for each language… Not good!

Is it possible to do something about this Colin ?
