I use SW on an 2017 Intel iMac running PlayOnMac (4.4.3). It works fine. I tried installing POM 4.4.4 and then SW 2.37, but I got a lot of Wine crashes and no install, so went back to POM 4.4.3 and tried to install SW2.37 there - no Wine crashes, but the install just doesn’t work - it goes through the motions but never opens the Wise installation wizard and so nothing is installed, but it doesn’t error. So I tried installing the SW 2.38 beta - same thing. Then I tried installing SW 2.34 and that worked. So has something changed in the installation process in the SW 2.37 version?
Hi Alastair,
The installer is still fundamentally the same Wise Installer, although some files have changed. Unfortunately, I don’t have an Intel Mac to test this on; I only have an M1 Mac and use Parallels for Sailwave.
Perhaps you could try the trial version of Crossover to see if that resolves the issue? Alternatively, the Wine version described here Successful install of Sailwave on a Silicon MacBook M1 and a Silicon Macbook M4 with WINE - Mac and Linux - Sailwave User Group might work on an Intel Mac. Despite the title I think there is still a problem with Apple Silicon when using ratings - one design appears to work.
Hopefully, someone else with similar hardware can assist you further.
Regards,
Jon
Hi Alistair,
An FYI
I am successfully running Sailwave v2-38-1 having used the full install v2-38-0 first on:
- openSUSE ‘Tumbleweed’ Linux distribution with WINE v10.0
- Linux Mint v22 ‘Wilma’ distribution with WINE v9.0
I did have a period during WINE 10.0 development on my openSUSE where an installed version of Sailwave would not run. I could see errors when starting from the command line. It might be worth trying in PlayonMac a different revision of WINE.
Kind regards,
Huw
Hi Alistair,
FYI - I have just installed Sailwave v2-38-0 successfully on following Linux system:
- ASUS eePC with Intel Atom CPU @1,6GHz with 2Gb RAM
- OS is LMDE 6 ‘Faye’ 32-bitDistribution (LMDE - Linux Mint Debian Edition)
- WINE 8.0 (Debian 8~repack~4)
- PlayOnLinux v4.3.4
I am just about to download Sailwave v2-38-1 EXE only and try that.
WINE & PlayOnLinux were installed using OS graphical software installer
Kind regards,
Huw
Hi everyone,
Quick update on my previous post in this thread.
As Sailwave v2-38-1 full install has been released I used that to update my ASUS eePC instead of doing copy & paste of EXE only. All went through with no issues.
Kind regards
Huw
