Team Race Scoring

Hello,

I have searched to find out if i can use Sailwave to score a Team Race Series and i cannot find anything at all.

Lets say i have up to 10 boats split into two teams, Using the Low point scoring system how do i group certain boats into Team A and the others into team B, with race scores being added to provide either Team A or B a winner of each Race?

I assume it is to use the Fleet filed but cannot seem to work it out.

The boats would all be the same One Design

Thanks

JohnW

Hi John

Sailwave doesn’t cover team racing but if you go to the UKTRA web site www.teamracing.org you will find lots of really helpful data about managing & scoring an event

Hi John and Ralph

Sailwave does support Team prizes and the following is available in the Publish menu

There are also some more sophisticated options such as those used for the World Sailing Youth worlds just recently, where the scoring system was Sailwave and Nation Ranking was all calculated by Sailwave software

So there are many options for team scoring from the Sailwave results

Jon,

Thank You that is great, i need to work on this over the next couple of months.

I will probably be back asking more questions about it .

But thanks for this.

There is a difference between scoring of team racing (where one
team wins a match and the other loses ) as opposed to scoring
teams in fleet racing.

As noted, Sailwave can't do the former, but can do the latter, to

a limited extent. With team scoring, the algorithm totals the sum
of the boats identified in a team (e.g. club) on overall results,
but not on each race (unless results are published after each
race).

Some time ago, I put in a request for an enhancement such that

the top N per team be calculated per race, i.s.o. the top N per
team overall.

Ok the method we would like to use for this is to have the total points scored per team, on a per race basis, ie either team A or B wins the race, if there are 6 races then we should get a winning team based on how many races each team has one.

Come to think about it i am not sure if it is three races each, Appendix A8 doe snot seem to fit … but that is another question.

Thanks

Hi John - That is not how the team rankings work in Sailwave

You can take the best x from each team and you can use Rank or Nett points

In your case you are not defining how a team wins a race. It can get very complicated if you are not careful especially when you start trying to have Tie breaks.

The World Sailing Youth team ranking was done on results of the day so sometimes 2 and sometimes 3 races

Jon,

I have to be honest, i am not sure i fully understand.

We have held this competition once before, so if we have an opportunity to start doing it correctly, then now is the time for the club to get it right as the SI’s are still to be agreed.

I think what i will do is create a dummy Sailwave file based on what i believe i am trying to do, then perhaps i can get back in touch to try and resolve the issues?

The earliest this will happen is next week

Thanks

There is something odd happening with this group, i just sent you a response and that also failed… i was sure it was linked to the reply having an Attachment.

John W

OK, I am trying to send this response with attachment again, (failed twice) but from a different Browser.

The attached is a very simple sailwave file that shows a very simple two team set up, Low scoring No ratings… Dummy results have been inserted and i was hoping to get a list of each Race results, with an overall Team result.

A team is considered to win a race when it has the lowest total team low score for the race.

With a total number of races counted No Discards, there will be a winner if there is an odd number of races. or we could create our own Team count back variation on A8.

This race has been run a couple of times over a two day period, although it is covered by official SI’s there is an element of Fun also, so we were hoping to simplify any Race management overhead.

Not sure if Sailwave can be “rigged” to deliver the scoring on this event?

Thanks

John W
