Texel Ratings file needed?

Hi all,

I work closely with the Texel Rating Committee. I am willing to
create a rating.txt file for all Sailwave users with most of the
Texel Rating numbers (one-offs excluded). However, since version 3 of
the Texel Rating standard, two ratings are calculated for all boats:
one with a spinnaker, one without. For most boats, this is quite
straightforward:
"Texel","Hobie 16","117",""
"Texel","Hobie 16 + spi","113",""
For others, it is not so simple: the Formula 18 is only class legal
with a spinnaker. Personally, I am used to this, but how can I best
help other users?

Suggestions please.

Hi,

with a spinnaker. Personally, I am used to this, but how can I best
help other users?<

Personally, I think that if the class used a spinnaker by design (like the
F18s/iF20s) then a single entries like "Hobie Tiger" and "Inter 20" (with
the spinny implied) would be OK.

Just out of interest, do you calculate Texel values for the various F18
classes based on their actual measurements *and* a general F18 value based
on the maximum dimensions the F18 rule allows - or just the latter?

When I get the time I would like to add a Texel rating calculator to the
existing ISAF SCHRS calculator that Sailwave has.

Colin

I'll try to do just that. From a comercial viewpoint, the Dutch
dealers for most of the Formula type boats pressured the Rating
Committee to come up with a separate Rating for their boats without
the spinnaker (e.g. Hobie Tiger TR 102, Hobie tiger without spi TR
106) so their customers wouldn't HAVE to buy and use the spinnaker to
be able to sail Texel rated races competitively. A standard spi +
gear subtracts 4 points.

I must make myself clear: I am NOT part of the Texel Rating
Committee, so I don't do any of the actual calculations. If I'm
correct, the current TR for Formula type boats is based on averaging
the measurements for the market leaders (which are almost exactly the
same anyway). In a previous version, the class rule maxima were used,
which gave a completely unusable Rating.

When I get the time I would like to add a Texel rating calculator
to the existing ISAF SCHRS calculator that Sailwave has.

see www.texelrating.knwv.nl for the latest formulae and a spreadsheet
with all known measurements.
