I have had a quick look and did find some threads on this but I still
have the problem. I am in the middle of a winter series at the moment
and some of the competitors have sailed different boat each week. To
accomadate this I added new competitors to series. Now I would like
to combine their results to get a total. I thought this would be easy
by just scoring the series then editing the results by changing a DNC
to and 8 th place and vice versa for the competitors. The only
problem is when you come to re score the lot it won't handle the
results in both numerical places and elapsed time. I could re write
the whole results on the last weekend but I would like to give out
prises etc without the human error bit creeping in.
Any ideas?

What do your SIs say? For example ours say that you cannot change
boats/equipment during a series (so that you can't take advantage of the
conditions) which means that any competitors sailing a different
boat/configuraiion during the series has a separate competitor entry in
Sailwave for each, and there is no merging of results - you can still get a
decent result depending on the discard profile (50% in our case) and the
frequency with which you change boats/configurations. Other clubs allow
complete freedom of choice so you just keep one entry in Sailwave for the
competitor and adjust their handicap on a per race bases as appropriate in
edit+result - in the boat field you can put something like Laser/rs400 or
"Dart18 with and w/o spin" for example.
You seem to be somewhere inbetween the two cases and I'm not sure of the
solution, hence the SI spec request. But yes Sailwave does not handle
scoring a race in which there elapsed times and places recorded - it's
difficult to know how it could be meaningfully achieved in fact...

Have you tried scoring each week as a seperate series within Sailwave and using the merge feature to combine each week into a master series? If you merge by helm name it should do what you want.

We have a need in some of our Hobie Class World Championships to score the
event where the competitors change boats and sail numbers between each race.
The boats are factory-supplied and this process appears to level the playing
field.
Can this be handled by Sailwave? Furthermore, can Sailwave generate the
sail number assignments, by race, for the competitors on some kind of random
or mixed-up basis. We have a custom scoring program that does all this, but
I'd love to migrate to Sailwave.
