This topic needs a title

The Snipe class governing body (SCIRA) has a special one design scoring system that I have not been able to set up using Sailwave. The problem relates to the way in which SCIRA handles DNC, DNF, RAF, DSQ, OCS, etc. They use three bases to calculate from; boats in series, boats starting and boats finishing. I have tried using the long series scoring system but it does not work for anything calculated from number of finishers.

Sailwave does not keep track of the number of finishers so any calculation based upon that number can not be made. Assuming that 30 boats enter, 20 boats start and 10 boats finish the Sailwave long series scoring and SCIRA scoring works as follows.

DNF is number of finishers plus 1. SCIRA=11, Sailwave=21

OCS is number of competitors plus 10%. Can I set up Sailwave to score this?

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

Hi Mark,

I add more "code methods" as required based on personal experience and
messages posted on the SUG. I'll extend the repertoire to include scores
based on the number of finishers. I can't actually remember the answer to
your % question, but if Sailwave can't do it, again, I'll extend the
repertoire. Its fairy easy to add in new code methods. Actually, I must
admit that I didn't initially think scores based on #finishers would be
useful because of the potential for deliberate manipulation by the
sailors... Will do ASAP.

Hi Paul,

I have a problem reading the PY numbers and Rating file on the new Beta 5

version<

Can you be more specific? The upgrade logic should have copied your
rating.txt file from the Sailwave installation folder and plonked it in the
ratings sub-dir (in the installation dir) - and renamed it rating.csv. Has
that happened?

Colin

Now that there is a ratings folder which can contain N rating files, I've
removed the editor that used to come with Sailwave to specifically edit
rating.txt. Hitting Edit+RatingFiles or the toolbar button fires up
MyComputer into the ratings files folder (as you have discovered) - you then
edit them using the program of your choice; e.g. Excel or Notepad.

it's quicker editing the CSV files directly than using the old interface.
Especially when cutting/pasting lots of classes etc. See
http://www.sailwave.com/doc and have a look at the "rating file format" page
for more info.

Colin

Hi Charlie,

directory and created a CSV file called rating in Microsoft excel<

Sailwave just created the csv file (it's actually just your old .txt file
renamed to be a csv file - which is more accurate, because that's exactly
what it was/is). Your system is probably set up such that MSExcel is the
default app associated with the .csv extension - which is fine - you can do
edits in Excel. Depending on your OS you can also right click on the rating
file(s) and use OpenWith to use something else to edit the file - it's just
text at the end of the day.

See http://www.sailwave.com/doc.

Colin
