a. Duration
(…) b. Number of races and race courses
There shall be 10 races planned, 8 or 9 short races and 1 or 2 long distance race(s).
Long distance race: 20 to 25 nautical miles, finish for the last boat not later than 30 minutes after sunset. A second long distance race may be shorter: 12 to 15 nautical miles.
Short races: (…) c. Wind and waves conditions
(…) g. Ties
In case of a tie, the tie will be broken for the better place in the long distance race, further according to RRS App A.8.
The configuration is easy with he French software Freg2007, but I don’t find may way in Sailwave’s interface.
Am I right in thinking that the only Sailwave issue is g. Ties ?
First of all, does the wording mean that A8.1 and A8.2 are deleted or is the wording an additional paragraph if there is still a tie after A8.1 & A8.2??
Secondly, the wording says “the long distance race” but the SIs allow for possibly two long distance races
I am currently working on trying to test AppendixLE AddC issues & it may be that the Medal Race idea could work for you.
This has an option of breaking ties on the Medal Race only
If this works, you could enter the relavant race last & set it as your ‘Medal Race’

The text of our regulation should be amended, as the intention was to break ties on longest long distance race, then “medium distance” further according to appendix A8.1 and 8.2.
The long distance uses to be a hard race with several DNF, for technical and physical reasons.
In the past, tradition was to give weighting 1.5 for long distance, 1.25 for medium distance, some softwares used like Freg were rejecting - for logical reasons - the discard of weighted races, so any coded result had a terrible effect, causing some competitors to abandon and go back home.
Later (2000), weighting was cancelled, but to give this long race some importance, this was made non-discardable.
Still too heavy, and this was abandoned too.
The only way to give this (these) race(s) more importance, was to give them a precedence on App A.8 rules.
In the results of the last Worlds, there are two ties (15-16 and 17-18), both are broken in the reverse order by Sailwave. See attached file and official result on http://www.microclass.org/results/MC07.html
