Ubuntu install help

just downloaded sw 2.5 finally got winr to install it but it keeps giving message the rating folder does not exist Z:\home\ken\documents\sailing Please check your settings in the global options folders tab when I click OK SW opens then immediately closes not allowing me to do anything - i'm running ubuntu 11.10 on laptop i was only upgrading sw from 2.06 because the ubuntu upgrade lost a lot of the text boxes

I had that problem a while back - it was due to a glitch in WIne.

I found that I could open an existing SW file, but not open the SW

program to create a new file.

The problem was resolved by installing the latest version of Wine -

I’m on Wine 1.4

Once you can get SW running, you can specify where SW can find the

ratings file. But under wine, it seems to prefer a pseudo Windows
scheme, using C:/ My Documents

hope this helps

From what I have found trying Sailwave under Linux is that it is

Ken,

Go to this page on the winehq website:

This has instructions for setting your system to look at winehq for

the wine package (i.s.o. only the normal Ubuntu repository). This
guide is based on Ubuntu 9 - its now slightly different on Ubuntu
10. Just click on the Ubuntu Software Centre icon on the left to get
to the same place.

Now go back to Ubuntu software centre on your PC, you should be able

to search for wine there, to be able to install it. It should pick
up the latest version.

Then also search and install winetricks in Software centre - cure

the fonts problem.

Ken,

Do you still get the same `file not found' error message?

When I initialise the installation, the first step that comes up is

the window `Wise Installation Wizard’ - do you get to that step?

To test your Wine - go to your Home folder. On the top of your

screen, select View', and Show hidden files’
Go to the (now visible) .wine folder
Go the windows sub directory. Open the notepad.exe file with Wine
Windows Program Loader
If that works (a notepad pops up), wine is OK and there might be a
problem with your sailwave file - try downloading again?

Hi Malcolm
I still get the file not found message - have used your test and notepad opened OK. I've downloaded SW 3 times each with the same result. Wine doesn't appear to be able to see it or one of the files in the install process.

Sorry, just saw my name pop up. I haven't been paying a lot of attention! How about we take this to PM so our compadres here don't have to watch?

Email me at andy@sailor.nu, I'll try to help. Version of Ubuntu would be helpful too.
