ubuntu

I am a fairly regular user of Sailwave in Windows. I am doing some trials with old laptops running ubuntu. I want to use Sailwave running in Wine but there appear to be lots of Wine programs on the ubuntu site. Which one do I need? Assistance appreciated - Ubuntu version is 10.10 the latest

at linux commnad prompt$ sudo apt-get install wine

Download current sailwave, double click exe file to install.

If you get strange font stuff going on then search the archive here for discussion of ubuntu fonts issue… and the fixes… some recent posts in last couple of months seemed to suggest the best way.

I am using Wine v 1.2.2 currently.

Originally downloaded by means of Synaptic Package Manager, but the program has since updated itself via Update.

If you have a relatively recent version of Ubuntu (10.x), drop down the Applications menu and choose Ubuntu Software Center. Then in the search box (upper right) type "wine". You should see "Wine Microsoft Windows Compatibility Layer". Install that.

Then download Sailwave. If wine is installed properly, all you need to do is double-click the Sailwave installer to have Wine install it for you. If that doesn't work for some reason, open a terminal window, cd to the same directory you downloaded sailwave and type "wine sw202b6.exe".

Once that is done, come back to us and we'll walk you through getting the fonts to display properly.

Once that is done, it'll work flawlessly. Just finished scoring our big event for the year, Banderas Bay Regatta (www.banderasbayregatta.com) and it was amazing the difference from using spreadsheets last year. All done on Ubuntu with Wine.

Can't thank you enough for a great program, Colin! We all owe you multiple pints.

Ken, send me a private mail at andy@sailor.nu and tell me what problem you are having.

Andy

I have followed these instructions and installed wine without a problem.

Then downloaded sw202b6.exe and double clicked on it only to receive a message to say this is not a zipfile.

Was I supposed to click on it from within wine, or start wine first or something?

If you can see the file in the lister (Nautilus) - right click on it, then select `Open with Wine Windows Program Loader’.
