Updating Wind Indexed Ratings

When I was checking the Beta version of Sailwave, I noticed that the “Wind Indexed Ratings” for some but not all competitors were blank. I believe this is an artifact of using the prior year’s .blw as the basis for the new year’s .blw
and having aliased competitors for each competitor so the same Class name is used for each one. I believe this behavior is due to Sailwave using the existing ratings found for any Class name found in the .blw even if it had blank wind indexed rating values.

To resolve the issue, I needed to delete the Class name for each competitor with a blank wind indexed rating. Then I needed to reselect the proper Class name from the dropdown for Class name in the competitor entry form for each competitor
of that class including the aliased ones. Then the new and proper wind indexed rating would be loaded. I believe that this behavior is due to there being a valid rating in the Series .blw for the class name for at least one competitor.

My question is: Is there a convenient and easy way to “force” the most current ratings found in the rating file(s) to be loaded into the .blw for each race? I realize that if the rating changes during the season, the ratings for earlier
races in the series would be modified and could affect the results. However, in our case for any series, we would use the most current rating from our rating agency for all races and would want any new rating(s) “automatically” apply to the .blw.

There does not appear to be a “clean” solution that would retain earlier ratings and allow updates in the ratings file to propagate to the .blw for new and future races, so some sort of user selection may be required. I also realize that
the rating can be manually changed for any individual for any race and then that rating can be applied to future races and not past races but “checking” the appropriate box on the competitor entry form. That would require a manual updating for each competitor
with a change.

Thanks,

Tom Owen

Hi Tom,

Short answer is yes to quickly updating ratings.

Open "Edit scoring system", then select "Ratings" tab, then down

the bottom on the left hand side check the box “Auto update”
ratings.

Kind regards,

Huw,

Thanks for the response, but that was checked for both scoring systems. We are using Appendix A TOT and a locally developed TimePerMile.

a valid race. At this point all is working fine.

Thanks for the offer to help and have a great day.

In case anyone does not know or tried it, in Windows 10 you can recover old versions of files (even if you purposely overwrote them).

Just right click on name and pick restore previous versions. It goes back a long way(likely to the original).

You can look at old versions and restore what you like.

Sort of like a Super backup & restore. Pretty neat

I personally store all my Sailwave files either in Dropbox or pCloud as these both offer the history feature as standard and free of charge, allowing you to recover any lost or accidentally overwritten files with the added advantage that even if your PC or drive fails you have a backup of them in the cloud.
