Uploading PY races to RYA PYS website using plugin (question for Colin)

Our club Sailwave files include 8+ fleets, of which 3 are PY. Before uploading I find I have to edit the file to delete the non PY starts in all races and delete the non PY competitors. If this is not done I get either a mass of garbage on the PYS, or the upload fails. Can we have a selector button on the plugin to select which fleets are sent. This would speed up the upload and enable the results team to do it as a matter of routine - after uploading to the club website.

Mike, that’s a good idea.

I score an overall series by fleet, but make sure I switch to score all as one group before uploading. Otherwise, as you say the results in PYS don’t make sense. Colin could you have a look at this feature please?

Thanks,

Chris Gandy

Chris
My 3 Sailwave PY races are 3 fleets in the same series below 1000PY, above 1000Py and Whitesail, no spinnakers. They cannot be scored together as they will have sailed different courses.
My point is that I also have 5 other fleets in the same file (IRC, one design classes, Falmouth Working boats etc).
If I don't edit out the other fleets by deleting their starts and all competitors I get garbage in PYS.
BTW I am also finding the suggested PY's from PYS unacceptable for use in making adjustments and I don't trust the algorithm, This is a shame because otherwise the system seems to work very well.

Mike,

Understood about scoring different fleets in the same file. All my different fleets in one file sail the same course, so not too much of an issue for me, but can see why it is for you. Colin, could you look into whether the plugin could select fleets for upload please?

Not sure why you don’t trust the algorithm as its the YR2 formula with an algorithm to remove outliers. Can you email Bas/Andy with some feedback if you have concerns about the calculations. I’ve uploaded over 500 races and numbers are settling down nicely to what I would expect to see. The numbers will jump around more than the old PYS I think if a class doesn’t have many data points as the old site was heavily damped, but the new one isn’t.

Hi Chris
Thanks for your response. On the algorithm I have been in correspondence with Andy following some detailed analysis using PYS & YR2. I'll forward it to you, but I am not at all convinced the algorithm is following YR2. It is calculating SCT differently, and is calculating a higher SCT than YR2, which then means the PI's are different, penalising the top boats more and helping the bottom boats less. Also it is not taking out the outliers in a logical way.
