I have just started using SailWave and it looks great, but I need to
use the Rinderle B scoring system and I can only find Low Point scoring
options in SailWave. i'm using version 1.95 so i know it's possible,
but how?

You need to click on the UI button the Toolbar then click in the radio button by Pro options then click in the box beside High Points. The Rinderle B scoring option will then appear in the Scoring systems.

which works similarly to Rinderle B but gives fairer results.

It is already there! Just follow my earlier instructions and in the scoring tab select the radio button CHIPS instead of Rinderle B

The other thing you need to do is to set the scoring codes as required.
For CHIPS the codes that need to be re-set (if not already done) are:-
BFD – Score like DSQ
DNC – Score fixed points = 0
DND – Score like DSQ (but select non discardable)
DNE – Score like DSQ
DNF – Points for places (number of starters +1)
DNS – Score like DNF
DSQ – Score fixed points = 0
OCS – Score like DSQ
OOT – Score like DNF
RAF – Score like DNF
RET – Score like DNF
Re the Cox Sprague query: Neither
are quite like CS although at first sight they look to have similar behaviour.
Both CS and Rinderle B are more aggressive than CHIPS in their
differences between places and the effect of the number of starters.
CS is even more aggressive than Rinderle B – with a 1st out
of 3 boats scoring only 31 points (i.e. 31%) compared with RB = 80% and CHIPS = 90%.
RB scores 10% (or thereabouts) for all DNFs while both the CHIPS and CS scores
for DNFs all increase as the number of starters decreases (which is more logical).
RB scores are a bit irregular (non-smooth in behaviour) due to them all
being integer values whereas CHIPS and RB are scored to 0.1 and behave
relatively smoothly, as well as approaching large fleet scores in a gentler
(exponential) fashion.
CS runs out of steam if the number of starters exceeds 80 since all point
scores when there are more than 20 boats become 79 – number of starters.
If you look at the article “All about CHIPS” you will see a detailed
comparison of CHIPS and Rinderle B.
