Hi
I am trying to use a ratings file. I have downloaded the current ryapn
file and under Global Options>Folder I can see it where it should be.
But the py for our fleets remain at the old py. When I select a
competitor, then Edit Competitor and Boat Class there is a dropdown list
of classes. At the top is what seems to be a list of the classes I've
used in the past. In the much longer list that continues, which clearly
comes from the ryapn file, the classes I've used are missing. So it
seems I've somehow created my own list which refuses to update. Apart
from recreating my race files, which defeats the object of having
ratings files, how can I rectify this?
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,
I was hoping someone else would have helped you out by now.
The ratings file is a csv file so you can see what is in the file either with notepad or excel.
You don’t say which classes you are missing.
Sailwave will not as standard change the ratings, of a competitor if you change the ratings file. although you can tick the box, see the image below, This will then update the ratings if they change in the ratings file.
Hope this helps - otherwise please come back with some more details

Jim,
I think I know exactly what you mean.
I have seen the same.
What I have done is make sure (all – you can have more than one ratings file) of the new ratings files are in your chosen folder, which you seem to have done.
When you edit or add a competitor and look at the dropdown list of ratings you will see a number of your existing used ratings for that sw file which may or may not be the same as the info in your new file).
If the information (boat class name or rating) in the old ratings is different in the new ratings file you will need to chose a rating from the new file by scrolling down (typing the first few letters of the class only looks at the existing list of ratings, not the whole file) and choosing the latest rating.
When you score the series, if there are any competitors who do not have a rating consistent with the new file, you will be told and you will need to change this before the program will be able to score the series.
To add classes that are not in your new ratings file, you need to open the new ratings file (I do this in notepad) and add the new ones, taking care to use the same format as in the ryapn file, which is usually of the format:
RYA,class,rating_number
I hope you can understand this, as I think it is a little complicated

Thanks all - I'm nearly there but not quite.
I have checked the auto update box. If I open a new competitor in one
file and select Laser from the drop down list it shows 1087 (correct).
This didn't happen before. In another file it still shows 1082. I've
tried entering a 420, a boat not normally selected by me and the 2013
rating appears correctly.
However, whatever I do I can't get RS300 to work. In the drop down list
as Rob says there is a list of previously used classes. If I select
RS300 here, the py is shown as 1000, not 995 as it should be now and as
shown in the ratings file. If I scroll further down as suggested, the
RS300 has been removed from the list in between RS200 and 400!! So there
is no other option to select.
I have just tried opening a brand new file and selecting RS300 gives me
a py of 995 - bingo! No other method including copying an old file as a
template works.
Unless there are any other ideas I'll have to start over again -
fortunately most of our racing is class or pursuit so it's only a couple
of races, and I can manually change the 8 300's we currently have. It's
just annoying - maybe my file's got corrupted or something.
Thanks again
Jim

Hi Jim,
Did you tick the box - Scoring system - Ratings Tab - Auto set competitor ratings
(see picture in previous post)
Then you have to rescore to make this take effect.
This makes it update the ratings from the file when you rescore otherwise the ratings will stay the same unless you manually edit them
