Add
a Format facility to columns (Format tab in Edit+Column) that is used
when publishing. This is a string that allows you to embed the current
field as *
and any other field as fieldname
. So for exampe to
publish the crew under the helm set a helm column format of *
CrewName
(and don’t include the crew field when publishing). Any
valid HTML is allowed…
-
Add
EditCell window to help file.
-
Fix
publish FlightAssignments menu going AWOL at times.
-
Add
Edit,Cut,Copy,Paste cell to right-click menu in main grid view.
v2.01 build 7 has been uploaded.
A new faclity is abailable to control the formatting of cells when
publishing - for example you can use it to publish the crew under the
helm. Some help:-

OK I'm not even sure where to begin describing this! Nor how to build it in sailwave!
6 Day series. 4 days to qualify, 2 days discarded.
Each Day has 3 races, which are raced on Appendix A. Discard worst result from the day. At the end of each day you get points (using a high points system!) for that day in the series results.
So it kind of looks like this after 2 days (I may have the ties scored wrongly on Day 2 - ignore that!):
···
---------DAY 1--------------||---------DAY 2--------------|
> r1 | r2 | r3 |Place H.Pts || r1 | r2 | r3 |Place H.Pts | TOTAL RANK
Boat 1 1 2 (3) | 2 47 |(DNC) (DNC)(DNC)| DNC 0 | 47 5
Boat 2 (2) 1 1 | 1 50 | 1 2 (3) | 1 50 | 100 1
Boat 3 3 3 (DNC)| 3 43.7 | 2 (3) 1 | 3 43.7 | 87.4 3
Boat 4 (4) 4 4 | 4 41 | (3) 1 2 | 2 47 | 88 2
Boat 5 (DNC) 5 5 | 5 39 | (4) 4 4 | 4 41 | 80 4
So I can easy set each day up as an Appendix A low points to give me the results for that day.
But can I then import the OVERALL day result into another series to allocate the high points? Presumably I set up the series and use Merge/match comp & create a new race using series ranks from the merged series. And set that new series to use high points?
How will sailwave like the fact that people may change boat mid with through the series (but not the day I don't think!) Presume I can just do it from Helm.
**BUT** Can I set this up to run dynamically - eg so that I could have all the linked/merged files set up and someone else who just knows how to score the results on SW can do that then open the other file and it be automatically populated? Or is it somehow possible in the one sailwave file? qualifiers??
And then dare I ask about crew and helm both being scored... (I think this must be local feature as I've come across it in 2 serieses recently) ... can I use aliases to do it? Cause I can't work out how.
I would love to see how this was all presented to the contestants in the SI? I expect the grand poo-baas who dreamed up this amazing system in the bar never gave a thought to the actual scoring process.
There will be a lot of manual re-entry. Establish the daily results and publish them. Transcribe them into the separate full series. It will not take long with 2 people.

There is some logic - this one is a Youth Travellers Series. Its about fun and reward for both participation & performance. But it has the advantage of getting people used to low and high points, rewarding wins more than lower places. But also allowing more conventional low points to apply.
It was conceived for manual scoring, which is what they've done till now. Its only about 15 boats a day. 30 overall.
The points to crew and helm bit is actually logical. Just bloody messy for sailwave! Lets say you are 15 year old who sails... one week your friend who sails an RS200 asks you to crew... you still get points. The following week he is on holiday... but you aren't so you take your topper... you still get points...
I haven't seen the SIs. But it could be easily described like this:
Individual Races will be scored using Appendix A. 3 Races are planned on each Race Day. Only 1 Race can be discarded. If a Race is cancelled no discards will be allowed.
Points for the series will be awarded on the basis of place achieved at the end of each race day. Points will be on a high points basis (REF). 6 Races Days are planned, 4 races to qualify, 2 discards will be required. Zero points awarded for a DNC. (i.e. the four highest scoring points will be used for the series result) The Series Winner will be the sailor with the highest series points after discards.
There will be a lot of manual re-entry. Establish the daily results and publish them. Transcribe them into the separate full series. It will not take long with 2 people.
I was looking to avoid manual

Some help:-
This is a very frequent exercise...
The problem is to merge regatta results in a series, like we are doing in the Micro Class for Euro-Micro ranking (6 international regattas in FRA-GER-LAT-POL-RUS-BEL, some with 10-15 races).
Main problem is consistency of sail numbers, boats, crews, but this can be solved with aliases
I don't have a solution to propose, some others will do it better than me, but if you export regattas to a CSV file, open the CSV with Excel, copy useful data (competitor fields and final ranking) in an Excel sheet, add data of next regattas, save a copy as CSV and import the series in Sailwave...
