Thanks Mark,

Fixed in 2.8.3. It turned out to be nothing to do with my mods it didn't work in an earlier version but its fixed now. Thanks for finding it.

Thanks Malcom,

That is very strange. Could you tell me which version you tested with
2.8.0, 2.8.1 or 2.8.2 I made a minor modification in 2.8.2 just for browser
compatibility.

Also which Browser are you using. I was testing with IE on XP. But I have
code reports that it worked well from other people.

I was testing with a file with 7 Qualifier each with 2 starts and 6 Finals
each with 2 Starts and 59 Competitors

If you still have a problem with 2.8.2 perhaps you could email the .blw file
and I will fix it.

I would like to add my preference for
Sailwave to accept any number of minutes as most of our races have finishing
times between 45 and 75 minutes and having to enter times above 59 minutes as
1:00:00 etc will create a lot of frustration. Especially as we don’t have that
problem with the current version.

I’ve
played around with quite a few options over many years of recording finishes.
Restricting minutes to 59 etc. on time entry seems a poor idea to me. A lot of
dinghy races finish around the hour and the recorders find it easier to record
58-59-60-61 etc. rather than 58-59-100-101. You can be sure that throwing an
error when they enter 60 will sometimes put the recorders off long enough to
miss the next finisher. I’d allow 4559-4560-4561 for a similar reason (how
often do you enter the minute as the boat approaches the line, then the boat is
just that bit slow and you end up having to retype the next minute?).

What is keyed does not need to be the same as what is stored.

In Excel (other spreadsheet programs are available!), times (and dates) with
excessive seconds, minutes etc. are automatically stored as legal values by
carrying the excess to the next higher entity, so an entry of 67:34 is stored
as 01:07:34. Microsoft Labs used extensive user testing and feedback to
determine that course of action.

I estimate a 24:59:59 check would detect only 12% of possible keying errors
using a standard numeric keypad, but could give a false sense of security. Not
a worthwhile exercise.

Thanks Mark for your excellent explanation. I’ll try a fix it today -

probably used a variable that I shouldn’t have done.

Apologies I just noticed I called you Malcom last time.

Can I take this opportunity to thank you for your excellent User Guide.
I’m

afraid some of the changes are going to affect this though. Although I
hope

you agree they are for the best.

I have now also put in some error checking for the Minutes and Seconds
when

entering Elapsed times with the wizard so it will not let you enter
Minutes

or seconds greater than 59. This will be in the next release

The question now is should I do the same for the Finish times when
entering

as NNN through to NNNNNNNN

That is Format them 00:00:00 and check the Minutes and seconds

My personal preference is I should.

Hi Brian,

That is lucky because that is exactly what I have done. Version 2.8.3 is released on the Sailwave site if you would like to test it. I assume you are using elapsed times.

You can still use it exactly as you were before as you would have been typing a separator. However you can now type 7534 this will automatically add the : separator and check the seconds are valid and will display it as 75:34

Just a nice little touch

I agree
with mm and ss but how would you enter times in a long-distance

multiple day race? Art

hh between 0 and 23

mm between 0 and 59

ss between 0 and 59

Jon,

I have spent some more time testing and have a better understanding of
what

triggers the problem. When the options "Publish nationality field as

fine.

Testing environment.

. Sailwave Scoring Software 2.8.2

. Firefox 16.0.2

. There were 118 competitors.

&middot ; Six Qualifier races each with 2 starts.

. Races one through three had four flights Blue, Green, Red, Yellow.

. Races four through six had four flights Black Bars, Hot Pink,

Purple, White.

. Seven Final races.

. Gold and Silver.

There are three screen shots below.

  1. Series Properties window.
  1. Sailwave showing flight assignments
  1. Results with “Publish nationality field as hyperlinks to

  1. Results when above not checked.

Thanks Malcom,

That is very strange. Could you tell me which version you tested with

2.8.0, 2.8.1 or 2.8.2 I made a minor modification in 2.8.2 just for
browser

compatibility.

Also which Browser are you using. I was testing with IE on XP. But I have

code reports that it worked well from other people.

I was testing with a file with 7 Qualifier each with 2 starts and 6 Finals

each with 2 Starts and 59 Competitors

If you still have a problem with 2.8.2 perhaps you could email the .blw
file

and I will fix it.

Hi

As Promised a few screen shots.

I’ve also updated it to version 2.8.1 to include the abi lity to
include

the

start names in the column heading

If the start name is longer than 6 characters then it is not printed
if it

is 6 or less then it is printed so all the normal colours can be
printed

If you start the Start name with a space the browser will probably
print

it

on a new line see the example below.

Inline images 1

Inline images 4

The following example shows how you can have Races split into multiple

starts and the Start names can be appended or not as you wish

You can have the Start name appended to the Race e.g. Q2Y or
underneath

Q1

Yellow

or not at all. Starts that have no competitors in the group you are

publishing are ignored so you have double or triple columns for qualifiers

and and si ngle for Finals.

Thats it for now

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on the previous versions

This version has a new Requested feature of displaying Starts in
separate

columns when publishing the Series table.

From the Menu select Publish - Results and on the Options tab there is
now

a tick box Publish Starts in Separate Columns

This will Publish separate columns for each start. Particularly useful

when

you have Flights as you can see who is racing who.

Have a pla y with it and let me know what you think. I’ll tryand post
a

couple of screen shots tomorrow.

Versions 2.6.3 to 2.7.2 have a bug where they don’t save the starts

correctly this was due to some of the work Colin has been doing on the

JSON

publishing. This should be OK again now.

As Usual any feedback is appreciated
