Windsurfing Competition Rules (WCR) tie breaker

How do you configure Sailwave to break ties as per Appendix B WCR A8? The Windsurfing Competition Rules tie breaker is significant different from the standard Appendix A8 tie breaker.

Regards,

Peter van Muyden

Peter,

Need to 'switch on' non-standard tie break rules under Set-up | User

interface.

Kind regards,

Hi Peter

Make sure you have the Non-standrd series tie options ticked in the Setup User interface

Inline images 1

You will then see additional options in the scoring system - select the last one for who had the best discards - see below

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your quick reply. I selected the non-standard tie breaker, but it looks like that order is incorrect. Here is the screen capture:

There is no Appendix B 8.8, that option should be Appendix B A8.1. I’ve not tested it,but it looks to me that the tie breaker order is incorrect.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

I have always considered these to just be selection boxes and not

infer an order, although I can see that could be inferred. Jon will
know better than I do especially as he does a lot of scoring for
Sailboard events; he recently came back from scoring the Techno
Europeans in Latvia. Following this event he has some ideas for
Sailwave enhancements!

The text alongside the last option was probably overlooked when the

2013-2016 RRS were issued, Jon will know better.

Kind regards,
Huw

THE RACING RULES OF SAILING
for 2009 - 2012
...
B8.8 Series Ties

Hi Peter.

Taken from the latest Windsurfing Competition Rules from ISAF web site.

It still refers to Series Ties as B8.8 - I do admit that the numbering is very confusing though.

Inline images 1

The Tool tip does specify that this rule is applied first

Inline images 2

So I think its all OK although it is confusing I agree.

Just to make it more confusing although these tie breaks are used at most international windsurfing events, this is not always the case and you have to read the NoR and SI’s to be clear. The UK Windsurfing association don’t use these tie breaks they use the standard sailing ones.

Hi Peter, Jon & Cataldo,

Having just had a look round the ISAF web site after using Google to

see what ISAF have, I think that there is the possibility of
confusion.

The information Jon reproduced below is from the 2009-2012 version

(-[8963].pdf)
and I cannot find a more up to date specific version of the
Windsurfing competition Rules, so I think they have been superseded
by ISAF RRS 2013-2016. This is the text from the page in the
aforementioned link after the pages of flag signals:
The latest ISAF RRS 2013-2016
(-[13376].pdf)
has in Appendix B several paragraphs on scoring depending on the
competition format, but for ‘traditional’ round the buoys racing I
think the following from Appendix B page #57/58 (pdf page 61/62) is
what applies:
I am happy to be corrected in my thinking and interpretation.
Kind regards,
Huw
