World Sailing proposed Olympic format

The proposed Olympic format was passed by the WS council ( 38 approve, 3 reject, 3 abstain) . This format can still change and only really effects the Olympics, Olympics qualifiers and maybe some of World championships. Here is the link to the document: https://d7qh6ksdplczd.cloudfront.net/sailing/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/07211813/FORMAT_WG_EC_REPORT_11_06-final.pdf

I am not posting this to debate the pros and cons of the proposal, but people should be aware that most, if not all, scoring systems will require significant updates to handle the results. Keep in mind that most developers will not be interested in making the necessary changes until the formats are finalized.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the information.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Peter

Many thanks for this. In the very unusual case. I was actually informed prior to the approval but told it was confidential at the time. I looked at it then. It doesn’t look too difficult to implement so will make those changes soon. Someone wants to test it in April. When would you like it for?

Regards
Jon

Sorry Jon, I didn’t answer your question. Not everyone is happy with the proposal and as I stated, I expect more changes. I think that 2027 when the Olympics qualifying events happen might be soon enough. Worlds Sailing uses another scoring system for their Worlds.

Hi SUG Members,

Just a quick update.

Sailwave tracked the results of the 470 Europeans held at Vilamora Portugal and the current unreleased version of Sailwave v2-39-1 matched the official results (SailTI).

The NoR, SI’s and amendments posted have the details of the scoring system used at this event.

What other scoring systems will be thought of for Sailwave to deal with? The trial period for different scoring ideas, I think, is until end of May 2026.

Kind regards,
Huw
