Finish in Place, or FIP… for boats finishing after the committee boat wants to go home…( the last couple of boats) Is there room in Sailwave for that concept? Can someone either explain how it can be done, or why it makes no sense or what the pitfalls of the idea are.
The rulebook doesn't contemplate that code although it certainly doesn't
preclude the concept. App. A says to score by finishing position (or
corrected time calculated from finishing time, for handicap systems) but
doesn't say where that info comes from. Usually, it comes from the RC
boat at the finish line but there is nothing to say it cannot come from
a sailor.
Personally, I wouldn't think the concept is necessary or particularly
helpful to publish in the results - just score with the finishing
position or time, regardless of where it came from. The scoring codes in
A11 became required some years ago and so using other scoring codes
should be avoided unless absolutely necessary (and then, in theory,
requires a modification of A11 in the SIs!).

Art has given a good reply. Often at events I score the last few are finished on the course, often so that the committee boat can get the next race under way. Usually these are positional places and the competitors are just added to the end of the results with no other explanation. As to how it could be implemented in Sailwave that is really easy. Create a new code of you choice e.g. FIP in the Scoring System Codes section and set its method to Scored points + N Points with N set to 0
Enter their finishing details as normal and then add the code and their results will show the code.
