Yacht of the Year Series

Can anyone advise me on how to set up this series? It will consist of approximately 35 inshore and off-shore races with a points multiplication factor applied to the off-shore races. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to the Sailwave User Group

An excellent user guide is available here:
Mark Townsend's Sailwave User Guide is available from
http://www.abyc.org/upload/Sailwave_ABYC_User_Guide.pdf

The only thing slightly unusual is the points multiplication factor but
this is handled by Sailwave OK
Click the User interface button on the Main Screen and then tick the box
next to Race Weightings

Now setup the starts as per the User Guide and within the starts there is
an option to specify the multiplication factor for each start.

Hope that helps

Jon

Let us know how this works out as you might be the first with this particular type of scoring. Art

Jon,

Have hit a brick wall with setting up our 'Yacht of the Year' series.
I am trying to work out how to set-up the following races (high points) in 1 sailwave file:
16 from 25 races with a x1 points factor
4 from 6 races with x4 points factor
2 from 3 races with x8 points factor
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Nigel,

How far have you got? In the User Interface did you tick the boxes “High Point Scoring” and “Race Weightings” ?

Do you have any more details of the race format - is there a NoR yet?

Jon,
Yes, ticked both of those and selected Rinderle B high point system.
The races (34) are set up with their relevant points factor (weighting), in the folowing manner:
Races 1 to 25 are the Inshore races PF x1, 16 to count.
Races 26 to 31 are the Long Inshore races, PF x4, 4 to count.
Races 32 to 34 are the Offshore races, PF x8, 2 to count.
The problem I am having is the discards.
Had to cheat and skimmed through the User Guide! and noticed a reference to a Master Regatta, could this be the way forward? IE set up the Inshore, Long Inshore & Offshore series separately and then merge the results into a Master Regatta called 'The Yacht of the Year'? However I can not find a reference to setting up a Master Regatta in the user guide. Any suggestions?
There is no NoR for the series as I am effectively extracting results from the existing series (Inshore , Long Inshore & Offshore Series) in order to ascertain the best performing yacht from all the years races.
Cheers,
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

You could certainly have the 3 events as separate files and import the points from these into a Master series. I can’t think of a way of having all three in the same file and specifying a the discard profiles for each of them separately but still count them as the same competitors. Maybe some of the other users here may have an idea. Its not something I’ve needed to do before. I’ll keep thinking though.

Regards

Jon

Jon,

I don't see any mention of how to import points from multiple events into a Master series anywhere in the help material. Can you do a step by step on how to do that for multiple events (and provide a simple example file)?

[I know it is possible to import points ONCE into "Carried forward" column but if you want to do it a second time then I think it has to be imported into a race and not a second "Carried forward" column. When doing that my choices are to treat imported race info as either places or elapsed times (not option for finish times, corrected times or points). So, that obviously isn't the way to do it. The only way would seem to be to do it manually by hand for each boat, in which case I would probably just use Excel since it has more flexibility.]
