HI,
firstly great prgramm!

We are a Sail Club with differents Boatd ( Laser/470er/ Finn Dinghy/
Corsar/....)
I will do this Programm for our Races with this Boats.
How can I creat a Race for it?
Bonus Points System ist.

Hi Michael,

Welcome to the Sailwave World.

The answer to your question is

  • Click Scoring Systems button on Toolbar
  • double click highlighted scoring system to edit
  • in the window that pops up select the Race Scoring tab
  • click the radio button on the third item down on the left hand side under Low Point Scoring Systems. i.e. ISAF Appendix A Bonus Point
  • on the right hand side set the number of decimal places to show to 1, otherwise a score of 5.7 will show as 6!
  • click OK
  • click OK

PS - you can set up multiple scoring systems here for choosing when you score a series

Now click on the Score Series button on toolbar to score using the Bonus Point System

Just re-read your message and realised I have only answered part of it :frowning:

To setup Sailwave for handicap racing you need to

click the Scoring Systems button the Toolbar

select the Rating System tab and select the rating system that you will be using - if you use the RYA Portsmouth you will need to create a rating file containing the ratings used in Germany. The creation of a rating file is documented in the help system.

click OK

Huw,

Just two comments.

  • Bonus points existed long time before ISAF RRS recognised it was normal to have ties in a race.
    On handicap, I will not come back to the subject, but I think it’s better to round corrected times to teh nearest second, son ties are always possible, including between boats having the same handicap (PN > 1000) and finishing one second from each other.
    If you are rounding to 1 decimal position, ties between an even number of boats are truncated (the average of 5.7 and 8.0 is 6.85
  • German Yardstickzahlen (and Dutch SW-cijfers) are similar to PY, except that the base is 100 instead of 1000. I should NOT recommend to multiply these factors by 10, according on the principle “he software must comply with the rules”, and not “the rules shall comply with the software”. So define the system as custom and enter the formula as c=e*100/r

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your comments. My view on calculation of corrected time is that as the race team can in the vast majority of cases only record the finish time to the nearest second, the corrected time should be to the nearest second. But this has already been discussed in this forum in earlier posts :wink:

You do not need to enter a custom formula, just choose one of US or VYC as they are based on the formula you have suggested for the custom formula box. Yes the RYA is based on 1000, but US & VYC are based on 100 the old RYA standard. What is needed is to create a rating file of the ratings for a particular rating scheme; I have not seen any rating files for the German or Dutch schemes you mentioned but they will be quite easy to create. I think I have found the information on the 2008 German ratings but as my German is non-existent could some one more fluent in German confirm if the information at this link is what I think it is :wink: http://www.dsv.org/uploads/media/5406.PDF
