Publishing via Email

Hi,
I have been publishing the results via Outlook Express for many years
with out problems. Recently I upgraded to Outlook, and I now get a
messege about the use of a MAPI client, which I have found in a couple
of the discussions. as far as I know Outlook is MAPI compient so I
should be able to use it.
Sailwave first tells me about using the MAPI compient Email, then it
askes me to pick up a Profile, the choice I get is Outlook, which I
choose, then it tells me that the messege is sent, but it does not.
Any ideas?
Thank you

Hi Colin and Or,

The thing I have picked up is that Outlook is asking you to pick a profile; in my knowledge of Outlook this suggests to me that you have Outlook set up to work with a Microsoft Exchange server. I send results from Sailwave using Outlook but I am to configured to use Outlook for Internet only use not in a Corporate & Internet use mode. Another reason that you might not be able to send is if you have some security software installed that blocks emails being sent from applications other than your email client, Outlook; in my case I get a warning message.

Hope this might be of some help.

Kind regards,

Huw

Will,

To check how you have Microsoft Outlook installed

  • Select Tools | Options
  • Select Mail Delivery Tab on window that appears
  • Click Reconfigure Mail Support button at bottom of window
The window that then appears will tell you which support is currently in place by the Radio Button alongside the existing installed supported email environment option, if the radio button alongside Corporate or Workgroup option is set you are configured for Microsoft Exchange support.

I am not saying this is the problem with you being unable to send from Sailwave via email but it is a difference between myself and the other user who is having difficulties with Microsoft Outlook - he is not able to send email whereas I am.

I hope this helps.

Will/Huw et al,

Please also note that in 1.94 build 8 onwards you can publish by email straight to your SMTP email server w/o the need for an email client. This method is also used to send stuff to Y&Y now. You have to set up your SMTP account details in Setup+GlobalOptions first. The information would be the same as you put in your email client account to send email. If for some reason this does not work with some email servers like hotmail, I can probably point users at free emtp servers that can be used.

We’ve been using v157 quite happily for a few years
now and have no need for the flights, etc. generalizations in the latest
versions. The only drawbacks have been that we couldn’t make
publish to email work (we get a “no attachment found” message) and
when we make changes to a competitor, Sailwave often changes other fields in
the competitor that we did not intend to change.

When I saw Huw’s note about email and Microsoft
Exchange Server, I thought maybe that was our email problem, but we use Outlook
2003 which does not seem to have the Corporate/Internet Only options so it
doesn’t seem to apply.

When Colin responded that we should try 194 Build 8 or later
and publish straight to my email server, I thought that might be the reason to
make the switch to v194. However, after upgrading to build 10 and trying
it, I get a message that says “there was a problem sending your email”.
After verifying all my settings and getting the same result, I tried the “use
Sailwave mail server” option in Global options and then went into an
endless loop of “unexpected error” messages in blat.exe.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Will

If you click an email link on a website does outlook 2003 create the email

Will, Colin et al,

My previous post I have realised, following Will’s, message, was related to Outlook 2000 :frowning:

Things are different in Outlook 2002+, you get the option as to what sort of email server you are connecting to on a per email account/server basis when you set up the account. So to find out what you are configured for

  • Click Tools on the main menu bar NOT a message window bar
  • Select Accounts
  • In the window that appears is a list of accounts that have been set up, the first column is the account name which by default is the name of the incoming email server if you have not changed it and the second column shows what type of email server has been selected for this account (in my case POP/SMTP, i.e. incoming emails are collected from a POP3 server and outgoing messages are sent to an SMTP server)
Will I have similar problems if I try to use information set in Sailwave Global options, but if I leave all the mail related fields blank I can send an email out via Outlook 2000. I will do a test with Outlook 2002 later this evening when I can get my son of the newer system.

Kind regards,

Huw

Subject: RE: [sailwave] Publishing via Email

We’ve been using v157 quite happily for a few years now and have no need for the flights, etc. generalizations in the latest versions. The only drawbacks have been that we couldn’t make publish to email work (we get a “no attachment found” message) and when we make changes to a competitor, Sailwave often changes other fields in the competitor that we did not intend to change.

When I saw Huw’s note about email and Microsoft Exchange Server, I thought maybe that was our email problem, but we use Outlook 2003 which does not seem to have the Corporate/Internet Only options so it doesn’t seem to apply.

When Colin responded that we should try 194 Build 8 or later and publish straight to my email server, I thought that might be the reason to make the switch to v194. However, after upgrading to build 10 and trying it, I get a message that says “there was a problem sending your email”. After verifying all my settings and getting the same result, I tried the “use Sailwave mail server” option in Global options and then went into an endless loop of “unexpected error” messages in blat.exe.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Will

Will/Huw et al,

Please also note that in 1.94 build 8 onwards you can publish by email straight to your SMTP email server w/o the need for an email client. This method is also used to send stuff to Y&Y now. You have to set up your SMTP account details in Setup+GlobalOptions first. The information would be the same as you put in your email client account to send email. If for some reason this does not work with some email servers like hotmail, I can probably point users at free emtp servers that can be used.

Colin

Will,

To check how you have Microsoft Outlook installed

· Select Tools | Options

· Select Mail Delivery Tab on window that appears

· Click Reconfigure Mail Support button at bottom of window

The window that then appears will tell you which support is currently in place by the Radio Button alongside the existing installed supported email environment option, if the radio button alongside Corporate or Workgroup option is set you are configured for Microsoft Exchange support.
I am not saying this is the problem with you being unable to send from Sailwave via email but it is a difference between myself and the other user who is having difficulties with Microsoft Outlook - he is not able to send email whereas I am.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,

Huw

    Hi Colin and Or,
The thing I have picked up is that Outlook is asking you to pick a profile; in my knowledge of Outlook this suggests to me that you have Outlook set up to work with a Microsoft Exchange server. I send results from Sailwave using Outlook but I am to configured to use Outlook for Internet only use not in a Corporate & Internet use mode. Another reason that you might not be able to send is if you have some security software installed that blocks emails being sent from applications other than your email client, Outlook; in my case I get a warning message.
Hope this might be of some help.
    Kind regards,

Huw

Hi OR,

Can you try build 10 of 1.94 please....

Regards,

www.sailwave.com

Hi,
I have been publishing the results via Outlook Express for many years
with out problems.
Any ideas?
Thank you

Hi Colin,

I am going through the options now and documenting my findings.

FYI - so far I have found
that if all the fields in the SMTP tab of Global Options are left blank the
Send Email now option calls Outlook and puts the message in the Outbox
that putting my ISP SMTP server address in the Global Options | SMTP field I
see what appears to be a CMD window flash briefly on the screen (to short to
read anything), followed by a message box with the words "There was a
problem sending your email. Please check all your details are correct.
Another alternative is that the SMTP server is offline." The SMTP server is
not off line as I am sending other messages from within Outlook OK.

I will continue and write my findings up later tonight or tomorrow.

Kind regards,
Huw

Using Sailwave v1.94b10
All SMTP fields in Global Options blank
Email - send now gives error message saying Global Options not set
Email - save in Outbox puts message in Outbox

SMTP server field filled with my ISP SMTP server and from email box filled
with my valid email address
What appears to be command window briefly flashes up on screen
followed by message box with the words "There was a
problem sending your email. Please check all your details are correct.
Another alternative is that the SMTP server is offline." The SMTP server is
not off line as I am sending other messages from within Outlook OK.

Colin,

Guessed that's what you meant. Downloaded & installed.

All fields in SMTP tab of Global Options filled out except port filed and
the CMD window stays on screen slightly longer, sufficient for me to see
that BLAT is running but just as it seems that other text is being put in
the window it closes and is followed by the message documented earlier.
Having looked at the BLAT web site there is an option to create a log file,
is it possible for you to make use of this option by including a check box,
at least whilst I try helping to track the problem down.

See you in the bar on Tuesday evening.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Colin,

I am going through the options now and documenting my findings.

FYI - so far I have found
that if all the fields in the SMTP tab of Global Options are
left blank the Send Email now option calls Outlook and puts
the message in the Outbox that putting my ISP SMTP server
address in the Global Options | SMTP field I see what appears
to be a CMD window flash briefly on the screen (to short to
read anything), followed by a message box with the words
"There was a problem sending your email. Please check all
your details are correct.
Another alternative is that the SMTP server is offline." The
SMTP server is not off line as I am sending other messages
from within Outlook OK.

I will continue and write my findings up later tonight or tomorrow.

Kind regards,
Huw

PS - see you next week at Weymouth

Hi Huw,

>>Will I have similar problems if I try to use information set in
>>Sailwave
Global options, but if I leave all the mail related fields
blank I can send an email out via Outlook 2000. I will do a
test with Outlook 2002 later this evening when I can get my
son of the newer system.<<

The global options are only used when using the "send email
now" publishing option. They are not used for the "send emai
llater" option because your email client is responsible in that case.

What problems do you get trying to use the "send email now" option?

Regards,
Colin

Huw, before I do that, download build 11 again (I just updated it) and when
blat fails it will show you the command line used to invoke it. Paste this
into a DOS window to execute it by hand and you should see a decent error
message. I have yet to find a way to get these erros into Sailwave...

Colin
