Sailwave v2.00 build 0 - PRIVATE RELEASE TO SUG FOR EVALUATION

Hi all,

Version 2.00 build 0

I have moved to the next release of the development environment used to
create Sailwave (Clarion 6.3) and dumped the multi-threaded approach
when opening more than one file/series for the more modern apprach
where opening another file opens a complete new instance of the program

  • Sailwave in this case - this is much more stable that the old method
  • which is also dated now from a design POV. Seems rock solid here
opening an arbitrary number of files. Note that the Window menu allows
you to switch between files - as well as the usual Windows methods of
Alt-Tab etc. Removing threading should also improve stability in
Windows emlulators for Max/Linux and simply the path to a possible
portable app. I have rearranged Sailwave internally as well and may
have introduced some weirdnesses. Locales should be better but see
    below.

Install into usual place and just reinstall 1.95 build 12 when you need
to. However MAKE A COPY OF ANY .BLW FILES YOU OPEN BECAUSE THE SAVED
FILE FORMAT HAS CHANGED A BIT TOO.

All feedback - good and bad - appreciated…

Note that the download is slightly larger than usual because runtime
debugging options are all turned on.

You can download it (or install from) here:-

During an event the ability to auto open the last file should be useful

  • see “Global options”.

    Colin

Colin,

Sorry but seem to have found a little problem already

I cannot find the rating column in the columns dialogue window, so cannot display a competitor rating on the screen or when published, but it is shown when you open a competitor window.

Kind regards,

Huw

List of changes:-

Add a options for when Sailwave starts to the global options.

Enhance remembering window positions/sizes between sessions.

Change the Windows menu to red if the same file is open more than once.

Tidy icons.

Move development environment to Clarion version 6 (from 5.5).

Fix file not closing sometimes using File+Exit.

Extend competitor fields to specify contact details for all named crew:
Helm, Skipper, Owner, Guest, Navigator, Tactician, Pit, Mast, Bowman,
Main trimmer, Port Trimmer, Starboard Trimmer, Port Grinder, Starboard Grinder.
Like all competitor fields, these can be renamed and used for other purposes.
Need ‘extra competitor fields’ on in UI for this. May split this off into an option of its own.

Add ability to set crew weight in ISAF SCHRS calculator.

Change to a single document interface philosophy a la OpenOffice etc.
This should make Sailwave much more stable under Linux and Apple OS emulators.
You can now safely open as many Sailwave series as you like -
each one is a completly separate instance of Sailwave.
Use the Windows menu to switch between them -
great for Vista with the thumbnail view when switching between apps.

Update the RYA returns post processing URL.

Fix publishing by email using SMTP - i.e. send now.

Fix SMTP user name and password in global options.

Fix selecting the correct tab when entering Edit+Competitor.

Do some locale fixes. Unfortunately all radio button translations may be lost
(depends when you last updated) and may need to be redone,
but Sailwave doesn’t use that many… sorry about that.

Thanks,

Fixed in Version 2.00 build 0.1

Hi Colin.

Nice touch with the new release. A lot of new changes, and nice to see,
that it is now poosible to add several crewmembers.

But, I believe I've found a bug, regarding that...
In the "Edit competitor"-screen (entry-tab): When you type in a name
for the Helm (or Crew) it won't save it.
You have to type all names in the "All crew" tab...

Club and Nationality works fine, i spite of a commom state, but it
doesn't connect the name-fields, nor accept the names when not using
the "all-crew" function (single-handed boats or two-persons boats)

Best regards, and a big thanks for the great program.
Steen Hansen, Denmark

Thanks. Fixed in 2.00 build 0.2

NB; The Crew and Helm fields are suplicate firled ffor the
corresponding fields on the AllCrew tab - there for convenience.
I decided to leave Club and Nat as per entry as opposed to per person
fields but I could be worng about that… Easy to Add to each person
if needed.

Colin,

A first point is that it is important to use ths version only for testing, as compatibility doesn’t exist with lower versions, and files transmitted to other users, not using 2.0 could lead to problems.

Presently, just out of a major regatta, I will begin testing now.

A problem encountered with 1.95 build 12 was that special characters, like Polish ones (codes ę - Ł - Ń) and Latvian ones are a problem for me, as the letter, copied from an entry form, or imported from a CSV file, is not displayed properly in Sailwave. And Łukasz Ołtarzewski is displayed as Lukasz Oltarzewski…

I’m also deeply worried with the locales, I’ve still a very large number of items declared as obsolete and an almost as large number or items to translate, approx 270. If new builds and versions are making 15% of the translations obsolete, translators will stop working soon…

sort it out it should be OK from now on… I’ll look into teh

Can you confirm for me that if you go into a competitor - medical tab -

display properly - but - if you paste it into any of the single line

Colin,

As soon as I’ve sorted out all remaining problems after my regatta I will test it. Still using 1.95 Build 12. Special characters are modified in the medical tab in this version.

The problem for me is thant some special letters are pronounced very differently (in Polish, Ł sounds as W), so for prizegiving, it is important to have the right speling, including acents.

It is also more polite from an organisation to display the names as properly as possible. Not always easy, see the ISAF rankings… I know this is impossible to do for all, I’ve also Rusian competitors and I cannot mix Cyrillic and latin, hapily I’ve to wait for some years before Tunisians and Chinese competitors are joining the Micro Class…

See on http://www.microclass.org/results/EM07.html
some examples of the special characters I’ve currently to use (LAT-222, POL-28, LAT-228, LAT-77, POL-25, LAT-179, LAT-84, LAT-42…)

French letters like é, è, ê or German like ë, ä, ü are not altered

OK, thanks Philippe. Sailwave is not (and
presently cannot be) a unicode app so any character codes > 255 are
not going to work. There is also the issue of which character set is
chosen in Sailwave (Global options) and what language somebody’s
computer is working in. It’s a bit of a nightmare to be honest. Are
there any experts in this field out there… I’m not sure I follow
all the combinations…

I changed to MS Sans Serif font because it looked OK with with MS
ClearType on - where as the original font Tahoma - which I chose
because it had more non-western character support than MS Sans Serif,
looked terrible.

I think I need to be able to let the user specify which font to display
the windows in addition to the main grid and in addition to the charset
option in the Global options…

Colin,

In the html results, one line on the dable is coded that way:

<tr class="odd">
23 R Espadon Neptune FRA 27800 Le Guernigou M. Giarelli Y. Leroy S. CVVFCM 13:05:00 14:03:25 0:58:25 23.0

That’s very difficult to read, and they are a lot of unneeded LineFed CarriageReturn in the file

Sugestions are :

  • One cell - one line
<tr class="odd">
23 R Espadon Neptune FRA 27800 Le Guernigou M. Giarelli Y. Leroy S. CVVFCM 13:05:00 14:03:25 0:58:25 23.0
  • One row - one line

  • There is more comfortable option, with spaces aded so that codes of same cells are aligned
<tr class="odd"> <td>23</td><td>R</td><td>Espadon </td><td>Neptune </td><td>FRA</td><td>27800</td><td>Le Guernigou M. </td> <td>Giarelli Y. Leroy S. </td><td>CVVFCM </td><td>13:05:00</td><td>14:03:25</td><td>0:58:25</td><td> 23.0</td></tr>

Colin,

Small problem of punctuation

We come back to the “caption” we discused about weks ago.

The text is displayed

Sailed:8, Discards:2, To count:6, Entries:27, Scoring system:Appendix A

Punctuation rules in English are: No space before . , ; : and one space after

The space after is missing. Should be:

Sailed: 8, Discards: 2, To count: 6, Entries: 27, Scoring system: Appendix A

In French, rules are no space before . and , one space (use non-breakable,  ) before ; and : and one space after, best two spaces (then the first one should be non-breakable) after . (hapily not aplicable in the present case).

So

  • best ad this space after : in the template
  • think about possible diference in translations (this may be the problem only for the translator, if the : is included in the expresion to translate

BK, thanks for the feedback. Is there any chance
I could put your greek locale on the website…? If so can you send it

OK, thanks Philippe. Sailwave is not (and presently cannot be) a unicode app so any character codes > 255 are not going to work. There is also the issue of which character set is chosen in Sailwave (Global options) and what language somebody’s computer is working in. It’s a bit of a nightmare to be honest. Are there any experts in this field out there… I’m not sure I follow all the combinations…

I changed to MS Sans Serif font because it looked OK with with MS ClearType on - where as the original font Tahoma - which I chose because it had more non-western character support than MS Sans Serif, looked terrible.

I think I need to be able to let the user specify which font to display the windows in addition to the main grid and in addition to the charset option in the Global options…

See on http://www.microclass.org/results/EM07.html some examples of the special characters I’ve currently to use (LAT-222, POL-28, LAT-228, LAT-77, POL-25, LAT-179, LAT-84, LAT-42…)

Philippe,

Can you confirm for me that if you go into a competitor - medical tab - and paste Łukasz Ołtarzewski into the multiline medical notes field that the characters display properly - but - if you paste it into any of the single line entry fields, like Helm, it does not… Can you also see if typing such characters into the multi line text field work OK for you - and similarly does not for single line fields.

Subject: [sailwave] Sailwave v2.00 build 0 - PRIVATE RELEASE TO SUG FOR EVALUATION

Hi all,

Version 2.00 build 0

I have moved to the next release of the development environment used to create Sailwave (Clarion 6.3) and dumped the multi-threaded approach when opening more than one file/series for the more modern apprach where opening another file opens a complete new instance of the program - Sailwave in this case - this is much more stable that the old method - which is also dated now from a design POV. Seems rock solid here opening an arbitrary number of files. Note that the Window menu allows you to switch between files - as well as the usual Windows methods of Alt-Tab etc. Removing threading should also improve stability in Windows emlulators for Max/Linux and simply the path to a possible portable app. I have rearranged Sailwave internally as well and may have introduced some weirdnesses. Locales should be better but see below.

Install into usual place and just reinstall 1.95 build 12 when you need to. However MAKE A COPY OF ANY .BLW FILES YOU OPEN BECAUSE THE SAVED FILE FORMAT HAS CHANGED A BIT TOO.

All feedback - good and bad - appreciated…

Note that the download is slightly larger than usual because runtime debugging options are all turned on.

You can download it (or install from) here:-

http://www.sailwave.com/binary/sw200b0.exe

During an event the ability to auto open the last file should be useful - see “Global options”.

Regards,
Colin

One more suggestion, not related to 2.00

The default location is in the Sailwave folder in Program Files. This area is usually not shared.

In a domestic network, the options are

  • to create a Sailwave folder in the Public Folders
  • to share my Users/MyID/Documents/Sailwave folder
The Set Up can customise these file locations, but location of regatta files .blw cannot be set up. So sometimes (as I chose to save files of the SUG in another location), this location is used for subsequent files, and it happened that I destroyed some of the “good” files when cleaning up the temporary files. A default location for BLW files could be useful.

Perhaps also a general set up for the Sailwave folder could be useful too…
