I'm really confused as how to upload results from Sailwave to the new website. I've created a venue but when I look at the options available to me after I click on "add content" it's certainly not obvious as to how I get sailwave to upload directly to the website especially since it's asking for an event ID - also not obvious.
There is some information in the FAQ here - but not much.
Venues are just database entries - because many events will be at
the same venue it makes sense to encapsulate all the information
about that venue in one place and then reference it from Events.
You don’t upload data to Venues.
Events can be created and one of the fields is the Venue ID. Events can be thought of as mini/micro websites in
their own right.
You can create content for Events using the "Add Content" button -
links to SIs, photos, videos, news, etc etc. The menu bar for
events is self organising based on the tags in the content.
Typical tags would be “Docs”, “News”, “Photos”, “Results” etc.
The results upload is in phase one. All it does is upload the
file generated by Sailwave to the Sailwave site and add a post to
your specified event (hence the ID) (using your specified tags)
that this has happened. So for example you could have a f content
page called “Results” with fixed links to the result files that
you are going to upload
(make sure they will
be unique). People look there for the results, you update the
files as necessary. You can also optionally ask Sailwave to post
content saying “this file has been updated” - say you use the tag
“Updates” for example for that - a menu bar item would appear for
all the updates. The Sailwave home page shows the last N items of
content across all events so these updates would auto appear on
the Sailwave home page - people would notice there was an update.
Ditto for the event microsite itself - the updates would appear on
it’s home page - telling users that the results have been
updated. The idea is that you post a link to your Sailwave event
microsite on your club/association etc home page and people go
there for dynamic up to date results/news etc for that specific
event
Phase 2 of the results will be to show the results in the content
instead of linking to it. However you can do this now if you like
It’s not very pretty at the moment, but it gets the job done.
Does that make sense? Events are microsites, you add content to
design/fill them, you can upload results to Sailwave and auto post
content to the microsite saying it’s happened.
Essentially all I’ve done is extend the publish destination of
“Sailwave results folder” to auto create an update post for an
event.

I forgot to say. To try it out just use an
event ID of 10000 - that adds an update post to the “Test Event” -
I’ve done one here with the tag “Results”

Yes. I had an old copy of Windows Server 2003 available which I installed onto VMware, but I think it should work with any version of Windows you can lay your hands on.

With VMware - I just ran it out of the box and I think I specified a 40gb limit on the size of the Windows installation.
One of the great things about VMware is that I share folders between the Mac and Windows so I can just drag and drop between the two, which is really useful when I am moving files around.

Hi, I use Parallells and XP with Sailwave until I have solved the fontproblem with Wine on Mac.
Works perfect. But I really would like to get rid pf Windows.

Thanks Andrew, I was really trying to avoid buying windows but you guys have given me lots of options to consider when I finally take the plunge…I’m glad to hear its not only me who is having the font issue!
Just found this on the WINE website:
Quote -
In your 'home' folder ("/Users/<username>/" resp. "~/") in the hidden folder ".wine".
You can get into (even hidden) folders in the Finder by pressing Shift+Command+G and entering the path, for example "~/.wine".

Can you try doing the Shift+Command+G and entering the "~/.wine" and tell me what you get? That sounds like the same folder as Linux uses. If it is, I can tell you how to fix the font problem.

Re: [sailwave] Re: Mac Help?
I guess I should clarify that what I did was go to the user directory and hit shift+command+g and a dialogue box came up asking for the directory and I entered wine and /wine and ~/.wine and got file not found in all cases.
